PRS Custom 24 Trem Wood Library, McCarty Sunburst, Artist Grade Flame Maple, Anniversary (S/N 0433408, WL 02819)

This is a Wood Library Custom 24 Trem made in the USA, built to mark 30 years of Jack Gretz selling PRS guitars and 15 years of Northeast Music Center selling PRS. It has an Artist Grade Flame Maple top in McCarty Sunburst over a mahogany back, with a PRS violin carve. The mahogany set neck has a Pattern Thin profile, a 25" scale length and 24 frets. The fretboard and headstock veneer are both Brazilian rosewood, designated USA Only. The J-Bird inlays have Green Standard Abalone outlines and solid Paua centers. The hardware is hybrid, with black pickup rings, switch tip and tuner buttons.

The Pattern Thin neck is a faster, more streamlined carve that suits the 24-fret Custom platform. It has McCarty III Treble and Bass pickups instead of the set normally found on a Custom 24, which gives a clear, dynamic, vintage-inspired voice with good note separation. Controls are a master volume, a push/pull tone and a 3-way toggle, so the push/pull adds more pickup voices without cluttering the top. It has a PRS tremolo and comes with a PRS D1 molded hardshell case.

Jack Gretz placed his first PRS order in late 1995 for delivery in early 1996, and that relationship grew into Northeast Music Center, which has handled everything from SE and S2 guitars to Core, Limited Editions, Wood Library and Private Stock. The Custom 24 was chosen for the anniversary because it’s the model Paul Reed Smith brought to the company’s first NAMM show in 1985, and WL 02819 is part of that celebration.
