Hand-Selected at the Martin Custom Shop
Every exceptional guitar begins with exceptional wood.
For our Martin Custom Shop instruments, that journey often starts just a short drive from Northeast Music Center at the Martin factory in Nazareth, Pennsylvania. Our close proximity gives us the unique opportunity to personally visit the Martin Custom Shop and hand-select outstanding tonewood sets for many of the custom guitars we commission.
For this instrument, we carefully chose an exceptional set of highly figured Bastogne Walnut, selecting it not only for its striking visual character but also for the tonal qualities that make Bastogne Walnut one of the most intriguing tonewoods available to today's players. Formed from the natural characteristics of English and Claro walnut, Bastogne Walnut offers remarkable balance, impressive clarity, rich harmonic content, and a warmth that beautifully bridges the tonal personalities of traditional rosewood and mahogany.
No two sets of Bastogne Walnut are ever alike, they are quite similar in appearance and tone, but we need to choose just the right set. The dramatic figure, flowing grain, and natural depth found in this guitar ensure that it is not simply another Martin Custom Shop instrument—it is an individual expression of nature, craftsmanship, and careful selection.
At Northeast Music Center, we believe that selecting the right wood is every bit as important as selecting the right model. That philosophy is reflected in every Martin Custom Shop guitar we bring into our collection, giving players the opportunity to own instruments chosen with intention long before the first note is ever played.
All woods and specifications were chosen carefully by the team at Northeast Music Center Inc. on site at the Martin Factory in Nazareth, PA.
