The Custom 24 is the guitar that started the PRS story. But this is certainly not an ordinary Custom 24.

This PRS Custom 24 Stoptail Limited Edition Wood Library in Charcoal Tri-Color Sunburst, serial number 0429666, is part of an exceptionally limited 500-guitar worldwide release, divided between five finishes with only 100 instruments produced in each color.

That alone makes it noteworthy.

Then you look at the build.

A Figured Maple 10 Top, Black Limba back, Figured Maple neck stained to match the top, Ziricote fretboard and headstock veneer, Old School Birds, PRS DMO pickups, and a PRS Stoptail with Brass Inserts turn this into something very different from the Custom 24 most players know.

Charcoal Tri-Color Sunburst

The Charcoal Tri-Color Sunburst finish gives the figured maple 10 Top an enormous amount of visual depth.

Rather than using a single uniform color across the carved maple, the Tri-Color Sunburst treatment creates layers of contrast across the figuring, allowing different areas of the top to react as the guitar moves under the light.

And PRS didn't stop at the body.

The Figured Maple neck is stained to match the top, extending the visual concept of the guitar beyond the front of the instrument. It creates a much more complete aesthetic than simply applying an exceptional finish to the body and leaving the neck visually disconnected.

From the carved figured maple top through the stained figured maple neck, this guitar was designed to make an impression from every angle.

Black Limba Back

Underneath the figured maple top is a Black Limba back.

That specification alone immediately separates this Limited Edition from the familiar mahogany-backed Custom 24 recipe.

Black Limba is visually distinctive and brings another premium wood into a guitar already filled with unusual material choices. Paired with the figured maple top and figured maple neck, it helps give this limited run a personality completely its own.

Figured Maple Neck — Stained to Match

One of our favorite details on this build at Northeast Music Center is the Figured Maple neck stained to match the top.

A figured maple neck is already a substantial departure from the standard Custom 24 formula. Staining that neck to coordinate with the body transforms it into one of the visual centerpieces of the entire instrument.

The neck uses PRS's Pattern Thin profile, maintaining the fast, comfortable feel closely associated with the Custom 24.

This combination gives the guitar an interesting dual personality: visually extravagant and highly specialized, but immediately familiar in the hands of an experienced Custom 24 player.

Ziricote Fretboard & Headstock Veneer

PRS continued the exotic-wood theme with Ziricote for both the fretboard and headstock veneer.

Ziricote is prized for its dramatic natural grain and deep coloration, making it an excellent visual counterpoint to the stained figured maple neck.

Using it for both the fretboard and veneer also gives the instrument continuity from one end of the neck to the other.

Rather than treating these premium woods as isolated upgrades, the design allows the Figured Maple, Black Limba, and Ziricote to work together as a complete visual package.

Old School Birds — MOP & Green Select

Even the birds are unique to the character of this limited run.

PRS specified Old School Birds with outlines, using Mother of Pearl outlines with Green Select centers.

The green centers provide a subtle flash of color against the Ziricote fretboard, while the Mother of Pearl outlines preserve the elegance expected from an elevated PRS build.

It is a detail that becomes even more impressive when the guitar is viewed up close—and another indication that this Limited Edition was conceived as a complete instrument rather than simply a standard Custom 24 with upgraded woods.

PRS DMO Treble & Bass Pickups

At the heart of the electronics are PRS DMO Treble and Bass pickups.

They are controlled through a familiar and highly functional layout consisting of Volume, Tone, and a 5-Way Blade Pickup Selector.

The five-way arrangement gives the player immediate access to multiple pickup combinations without complicating the controls, making this guitar every bit as practical onstage or in the studio as it is collectible.
