Baritone & 7-String
Paul Reed Smith's SE line features two of the most popular extended range guitars in the market today. The SE 277 is a 6 string baritone at 27.7" scale that has tonality of humbucking and single-coil pickups and delivers a nice deep range to add depth to recording, or low range riffs that can handle the dropped tunings.
The Mark Holcomb Model takes Mark's 6-string award winning model, extends the scale to 26.5" and adds a low B string to deliver low range to the instrument.
Although these guitars have the hard rock and metal community in mind, do not let the SE 277 fool you from being a great studio tool. The 85/15 "S" pickups allow for crisp and clear notes troughout the whole register of notes. Players like Mark Lettieri utilize the SE 277 in a funk and fusion context for a rounded and thick rhythm tone.
