THAT MARTIN 12-STRING SOUND

SPRUCE TOP + BRAZILIAN ROSEWOOD-PATTERN HPL

This combination makes a lot of sense for the X Series.

The top—the primary vibrating surface of an acoustic guitar—is spruce.

Martin pairs it with Brazilian rosewood-pattern High Pressure Laminate back and sides.

It's important that we describe that accurately on the Northeast Music Center website:

This guitar does NOT have solid Brazilian rosewood back and sides.

The back and sides are HPL featuring a Brazilian rosewood visual pattern.

That's actually part of the D-X2E's appeal. HPL provides excellent resistance to environmental changes and the inevitable bumps associated with regular use while giving the guitar an attractive rosewood-inspired appearance.

This is meant to be a working Martin.

That's exactly where the X Series makes sense.

SCALLOPED X-BRACING

This is another specification I would make visible because the current-generation model has an important upgrade over the older D-X2E 12-String.

Martin uses scalloped X-bracing with spruce braces in the current D-X2E Brazilian 12-String.

The previous generation used non-scalloped bracing.

That's an important distinction when customers encounter specifications for both versions online.

The current model is designed to deliver the strong projection and bass response expected from a Martin Dreadnought while allowing the top to respond musically beneath twelve strings.

A 12-STRING DESIGNED TO BE COMFORTABLE

Twelve strings naturally create more tension and a different playing experience than six.

Martin has therefore paid particular attention to the neck and string spacing.

The current D-X2E uses a PA Profile neck with High-Performance Taper, a 1 7/8-inch nut width, refined string spacing, and a thinner fingerboard with a gently beveled comfort edge.

That wider nut provides the room necessary to manage six paired courses without making the instrument feel unnecessarily cumbersome.

The 25.4-inch scale maintains the familiar long-scale Martin response and contributes to the projection and definition you want from a large 12-string acoustic.

And every D-X2E Brazilian 12-String is Plek'd, another worthwhile specification for an instrument where clean setup and accurate fretwork are particularly important.

MARTIN E-1 ELECTRONICS

The current model also moves away from the Fishman MX system found in the discontinued version.

The D-X2E Brazilian 12-String uses Martin E-1 electronics.

The system gives you:

Phase

and a built-in chromatic tuner.

That makes the guitar ready for stage use without requiring an aftermarket pickup installation.

And on a 12-string, an onboard tuner is particularly welcome.

There are, after all, twelve strings to tune.
