MESA/Boogie 1x12 WideBody Compact Closed Back Cabinet – British Cabernet Bronco / Tan Jute Grille

A Northeast Music Center limited-run return of a discontinued MESA favorite—loaded with a Celestion C90 and combining closed-back authority, front-ported punch, and the bigger low-end response of MESA's 23-inch WideBody design.

Some great products disappear from a manufacturer's lineup before players are ready to see them go.

The MESA/Boogie 1x12 WideBody Closed Back was one of them.

Recognizing what made this cabinet special, Northeast Music Center worked directly with MESA/Boogie to bring the discontinued 23-inch WideBody cabinet back for a special limited run. This striking version is finished in British Cabernet Bronco with a Tan Jute Grille, creating a cabinet that's as distinctive visually as it is sonically.

Inside is MESA's proprietary Celestion C90, delivering 90 watts of power handling through a closed-back, front-ported WideBody enclosure engineered to produce considerably more low-end authority than you might expect from a single 12-inch cabinet.

And this particular configuration is something you can only find through Northeast Music Center.

CELESTION C90 — 90 WATTS OF CLASSIC MESA VOICE

A speaker cabinet should never be sold without telling the player what's actually inside it.

This WideBody is loaded with MESA's proprietary Celestion C90, an exceptionally versatile 12-inch speaker closely associated with the Boogie sound.

With 90 watts of power handling, the C90 provides the headroom and authority necessary to complement powerful MESA amplifiers while maintaining clarity across a wide tonal range.

Clean tones remain articulate and substantial.

Medium-gain sounds have body and dimension.

Move into high gain and the C90 provides the definition necessary to keep the low end controlled and individual notes articulate.

That versatility makes this cabinet an excellent partner for everything from classic Mark Series amplifiers to modern MESA heads.

WHY THE WIDEBODY DESIGN MATTERS

The cabinet's dimensions are an important part of its sound.

At 22 3/4 inches wide, the WideBody provides greater internal volume than a conventional compact 1x12. That additional enclosure space allows the cabinet to develop a broader and more substantial bass response while maintaining the portability advantages of a single-speaker design.

MESA originally developed the WideBody Closed Back as a companion to the Mark V, but its dimensions and tonal response make it a natural partner for a wide range of amplifier heads and combos.

It's particularly effective for the player who wants the convenience of a 1x12 but doesn't want the sound to feel small.

CLOSED BACK + TUNED FRONT PORT

This is where the WideBody really separates itself from an ordinary 1x12.

The enclosure is closed at the rear and tuned with MESA's front-port architecture.

The closed-back design contributes focus, punch, and low-frequency control, while the tuned front port helps extend the cabinet's bass response and maintain clarity.

Compared with MESA's smaller Vintage Thiele cabinet, the WideBody Closed Back produces a broader bass response with slightly more scooped mids, giving it a particularly satisfying punch.

The high end remains clear and detailed, preventing the larger low-frequency response from making the cabinet sound dark or congested.

The result is a 1x12 that can move convincingly from percussive cleans and thick medium-gain sounds to tight, powerful modern high gain.

A 1x12 THAT DOESN'T SOUND LIKE A SMALL CABINET

That's really the appeal of this design.

Many players would love the authority of a larger cabinet but don't necessarily want to transport a 2x12 or 4x12 everywhere they play.

The WideBody offers another solution.

You still get the portability and straightforward operation of one 12-inch speaker, but the larger enclosure and ported closed-back architecture give the C90 room to produce considerably more body and low-frequency authority.

Pair it with a compact Mark Series head and you have an extremely capable professional rig without the footprint of a traditional half stack.

Use it underneath an open-back MESA combo and it can add the focused low end and punch that an open-back enclosure naturally produces less of.

BUILT THE MESA WAY

MESA constructs its enclosures from void-free marine-grade Baltic birch plywood, with heavily reinforced rabbet corners and dado-jointed, braced speaker baffles.

Even the grille receives special attention.

Rather than attaching the grille material directly to the speaker baffle, MESA wraps it around a separate grille board. The twisted jute material receives a special treatment designed to subtly filter the extreme top end for a smoother response.

These details aren't decorative engineering.

They're part of why a genuine MESA cabinet responds and feels different from a generic speaker box.

BRITISH CABERNET BRONCO / TAN JUTE — AND ONLY FROM NORTHEAST MUSIC CENTER

Then there's this particular cabinet.

The rich British Cabernet Bronco covering paired with the Tan Jute Grille gives the WideBody an elegant, vintage-inspired appearance that stands dramatically apart from the standard black cabinet.

More importantly, this isn't simply another finish pulled from normal production.

After the original WideBody was discontinued, Northeast Music Center worked with MESA/Boogie to bring this legendary cabinet design back for a special limited run.

That gives this cabinet something most extension cabinets simply don't have:

A story.

It's a discontinued MESA design brought back because we believed players should still have access to it—and offered in a configuration created specifically for Northeast Music Center.

For the MESA enthusiast assembling a distinctive Mark Series rig, the player who wants maximum performance from a portable 1x12, or someone looking for a cabinet that isn't sitting in every other music store, this is an exceptional opportunity.

One Celestion C90. 90 watts. Closed-back construction. Tuned front port. 23-inch WideBody dimensions.

A discontinued MESA favorite—brought back through Northeast Music Center for a special limited run.
