MESA/Boogie ’90s Dual Rectifier 100-Watt Amplifier Head – Black Croc

The two-channel Rectifier that changed high-gain guitar is back—100 watts, four 6L6 power tubes, dual 5U4GB rectifier tubes, switchable tube or silicon-diode rectification, and the massive response that made the original an icon. Finished in Black Croc, this one looks every bit as serious as it sounds.

The MESA/Boogie ’90s Dual Rectifier isn't simply another modern interpretation of the Rectifier. It is MESA's return to the celebrated two-channel architecture of the original ’90s Dual Rectifier Solo Head, recreated for players who want the directness, feel, low-end authority, and explosive high-gain character that helped redefine rock guitar.

This particular version takes that legendary platform somewhere visually different with a striking Black Croc finish.

Available from Northeast Music Center, the Black Croc ’90s Dual Rectifier is an exceptional choice for the serious Rectifier player who wants the sound and architecture that started it all in a configuration that stands apart from the standard production amp.

THE TWO-CHANNEL RECTIFIER RETURNS

This distinction matters.

The ’90s Dual Rectifier isn't the later three-channel Rectifier repackaged in vintage cosmetics.

MESA returned to the two-channel design philosophy associated with the original amplifier, giving players the straightforward Orange/Red channel architecture that established the Rectifier sound.

That simplicity is part of the appeal.

Instead of navigating a massive control set, the amp gets you quickly to the enormous rhythm and lead tones that made Rectifiers famous.

CHANNEL 1 — ORANGE

Channel 1 provides Clean or variable Vintage High Gain operation.

The Clean mode has been improved for the modern recreation, expanding the amplifier's usefulness without sacrificing the identity players expect from a classic Rectifier.

Move into Vintage High Gain and the amplifier begins delivering the saturated, harmonically rich character associated with early Rectifier tones.

But MESA's Channel Style / Cloning system lets Channel 1 go even further—it can be configured for the Modern High Gain character normally associated with the Red channel.

CHANNEL 2 — RED

This is where one of the most recognizable high-gain voices in guitar amplification lives.

The Red channel delivers the Modern High Gain Rectifier sound—huge low end, aggressive attack, layered harmonic gain, and the authority that helped define generations of heavy guitar.

Channel Cloning also allows the Red channel to adopt the Vintage High Gain character of the Orange channel.

That means the seemingly simple two-channel layout is considerably more flexible than it first appears.

TUBE OR SILICON-DIODE RECTIFICATION

The word Rectifier isn't simply a model name.

MESA gives you a genuine choice between two 5U4GB tube rectifiers and silicon diodes, allowing you to alter the response and feel of the amplifier's power supply.

Select Tube Rectification and the response becomes more elastic, with additional give and bloom beneath the pick.

Switch to Silicon Diodes and the amplifier becomes tighter, faster, and more immediate.

For aggressive high-gain rhythm work, that tighter response can be especially effective.

For expressive leads, vintage-flavored gain, or players who want the amplifier to breathe differently beneath their hands, tube rectification provides another personality.

It's one of the defining features of the Rectifier platform.

BOLD / SPONGY — CHANGE THE FEEL AGAIN

MESA gives you another way to alter the response with the classic BOLD / SPONGY power switch.

BOLD operates the amplifier at full line voltage for maximum authority, punch, and headroom.

SPONGY reduces the internal voltage, producing a softer, more elastic feel with increased harmonic character.

Combine BOLD/SPONGY with Tube/Silicon rectification and the same basic amplifier can respond very differently beneath your hands.

That's something specifications alone don't fully communicate.

A HUNDRED WATTS THAT YOU CAN FEEL

The Dual Rectifier's 100-watt Class A/B power section uses four 6L6 power tubes to deliver much more than sheer volume.

It gives the amplifier its low-frequency authority, headroom, punch, and physical response.

Hit a low chord through the right cabinet and you don't simply hear the Rectifier.

You feel it.

That's part of why these amplifiers became such powerful tools for three-piece bands and guitar-heavy arrangements. The Dual Rectifier can occupy an enormous amount of sonic space without requiring layers of processing to sound substantial.

And if you prefer the response of EL34 power tubes, MESA provides a dedicated 6L6/EL34 Bias Select switch.

THE SOUND THAT HELPED REDEFINE HEAVY GUITAR

When the original Dual Rectifier Solo Head appeared in 1992, its sonic identity was dramatically different from much of what came before it.

The combination of massive low end, aggressive upper harmonics, layered gain, and an unusually empowering playing feel quickly found its way into rock and heavy music.

The Rectifier sound became part of the vocabulary of an era.

Alternative rock. Hard rock. Punk. Nu-metal. Metal. Progressive music.

Its influence spread far beyond any single genre, and decades later the Rectifier remains one of the most recognizable—and most frequently emulated—high-gain amplifier designs ever created.

But an emulation and a genuine tube Rectifier are two very different experiences.

At Northeast Music Center, that's what makes the return of the ’90s Dual Rectifier so exciting: players can experience the architecture from the company that created it, built by MESA in Petaluma, California.

BLACK CROC — A RECTIFIER THAT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE EVERY OTHER RECTIFIER

Then there's this particular amplifier.

The Black Croc finish takes the already aggressive visual identity of the Dual Rectifier and gives it an entirely different personality.

It's dark and understated from a distance, but the textured Croc treatment reveals considerably more character up close.

For a professional player, studio owner, longtime MESA enthusiast, or collector who already understands what makes a two-channel Rectifier special, that matters.

The standard Black Bronco Dual Rectifier is an icon.

The Black Croc version is for the player who wants the icon without owning the same-looking amplifier as everyone else.

At Northeast Music Center, we believe special MESA configurations like this deserve to be presented as more than cosmetic alternatives. When you're investing in an amplifier that could remain part of your rig for decades, there is something satisfying about choosing one that is distinctly yours.

And Northeast Music Center is proud to offer this Black Croc ’90s Dual Rectifier to players who have been waiting for the return of the classic two-channel experience.

100 watts. Four 6L6s. Two 5U4GB rectifiers. Two channels. Tube or diode rectification. BOLD or SPONGY response.

The amp that changed high gain is back—and Black Croc gives this one an identity all its own.
