MESA/Boogie Badlander 25 All-Tube Guitar Amplifier Head

Big Rectifier attitude in a remarkably compact 19-pound head. The MESA/Boogie Badlander 25 combines 25/10-watt EL84 power, two independent channels with Clean, Crunch, and Crush modes, CabClone IR, and the tight, immediate response of the Badlander family in an amplifier you can actually carry with one hand.

The MESA/Boogie Badlander 25 takes the modern Rectifier concept and distills it into one of the most portable professional tube heads MESA has built.

Powered by a pair of EL84 power tubes, the Badlander 25 has its own personality within the Badlander family—raw, harmonically rich, immediate, and capable of delivering everything from articulate cleans and muscular crunch to seriously aggressive modern high gain.

And at only 19 pounds, it's an amplifier you can realistically carry from home to rehearsal, studio, or stage without sacrificing the sound and feel of a genuine MESA tube platform. MESA itself calls out the 25 for its combination of attitude and ease of transport.

Available from Northeast Music Center, this may be the sweet spot of the Badlander lineup for players who want serious MESA performance without needing 50 or 100 watts.

NOT SIMPLY A SMALLER BADLANDER

This is an important distinction.

The Badlander 25 isn't just a Badlander 50 with the volume turned down.

Its EL84 power section gives the amplifier its own response and harmonic character.

MESA retained the fundamental Badlander architecture—the tighter lows, more present mids, refined top end, and percussive response—but paired it with two EL84s and a lower-powered output section.

The result is an amplifier that feels immediate and alive.

Fast rhythm playing stays articulate.

Palm-muted riffs hit hard.

Complex chords retain separation under gain.

Lead tones have harmonic richness and sustain.

And when you back away from high gain, there's considerably more versatility here than the Badlander name might initially suggest.

CLEAN / CRUNCH / CRUSH — ON BOTH CHANNELS

One of the smartest ideas in the Badlander series is MESA's Channel Cloning architecture.

Both channels offer:

CLEAN

CRUNCH

CRUSH

Each channel also has independent Gain, Treble, Mid, Bass, Presence, Master, and CabClone IR selection.

That gives the player far more freedom than a conventional clean-channel/lead-channel amplifier.

Channel 1 – Clean
Channel 2 – Crush

Easy.

But you could also run:

Channel 1 – Crunch Rhythm
Channel 2 – Crunch Lead

Or:

Channel 1 – Crush Rhythm
Channel 2 – Crush Lead

You decide what each channel does.

That's simple design with tremendous practical flexibility.

CLEAN

Don't overlook Clean because this amplifier wears the Rectifier name.

Clean gives the Badlander 25 an articulate foundation for traditional clean playing, pedals, ambient effects, and pushed clean sounds.

And because the channel controls are independent, you don't have to compromise the EQ of your high-gain sound to get there.

CRUNCH

Crunch may be the Badlander 25's secret weapon.

This mode can move from pushed rhythm sounds into muscular classic rock, alternative, punk, hard rock, and heavier territory.

And this is where the EL84 output section becomes particularly interesting.

There's a British-influenced harmonic personality sitting alongside the unmistakable authority of a modern MESA preamp.

For players who spend more time in medium-to-high gain than extreme saturation, Crunch alone may justify owning the amplifier.

CRUSH

Then comes Crush.

This is where the Badlander earns its name.

Aggressive.

Tight.

Fast.

Saturated.

But the key word is defined.

The Badlander concept was developed partly in response to Rectifier players asking for tighter lows, less mid scoop, and a refined high-frequency response while retaining MESA gain and authority.

Crush gives you plenty of saturation without turning everything underneath your fingers into an indistinct wall of gain.

For modern rock, progressive music, lower tunings, and metal, that's a major advantage.

25 WATTS — DYNA-WATT PENTODE

At full power, the two EL84s operate through MESA's proprietary Dyna-Watt Class A/B Pentode configuration, producing 25 watts with maximum punch and clarity.

And don't let the number fool you.

A professional 25-watt tube amplifier through an efficient MESA 2x12 or 4x12 can be remarkably powerful.

For many club, rehearsal, studio, and mic'd-stage situations, 25 watts may be considerably more useful than 100.

10 WATTS — TRIODE

Switch to 10 watts and something more interesting happens than simply reducing volume.

The EL84s move into Class A/B Triode operation, creating a softer, sweeter response with increased harmonic richness.

That's why I wouldn't describe the switch merely as:

25W / 10W = Loud / Quiet

It's better understood as:

25W — Punch / Clarity / Authority

10W — Sweetness / Harmonics / Different Feel

You're getting two different power-section personalities.

CABCLONE IR BUILT IN

This feature dramatically expands what you can do with the Badlander 25.

MESA integrates its CabClone IR Direct Interface directly into the amplifier.

You get eight MESA cabinet impulse responses, with independent IR selection available for each channel. USB connectivity allows IR transfers as well.

The system also provides:

Balanced XLR IR Direct Output

Headphone Output

IR Output Level

Ground/Lift

and one particularly important feature:

An internal amplifier load.

YES — YOU CAN RUN IT WITHOUT A SPEAKER CABINET

When properly configured, the Badlander 25's internal load allows the amplifier to operate without a physical speaker cabinet connected.

That changes what this little amplifier can do.

At home, you can practice through headphones.

In the studio, you can record silently.

On stage, you can send the CabClone IR output directly to front-of-house.

And the signal is still being generated by a genuine:

5 × 12AX7 tube preamp

feeding a:

2 × EL84 tube power section.

That's a very different proposition from simply plugging into a digital amp model.

ONLY 19 POUNDS

This may be one of the strongest practical selling points of the Badlander 25 Head.

19 pounds.

And only:

18⅜" wide.

8½" high.

10" deep.

Think about what MESA has packed into that chassis:

Two EL84s.

Five 12AX7s.

Two independent channels.

Six possible channel/mode combinations.

25/10-watt operation.

Tube-driven effects loop.

CabClone IR.

Internal reactive load.

Headphone output.

Balanced direct output.

And it's still only 19 pounds.

For the working musician who actually has to carry their own equipment, that matters.

CHOOSE THE CABINET FOR THE JOB

The head format also gives the Badlander 25 an advantage over the combo.

You're free to choose the speaker system.

Pair it with a compact MESA 1x12 for an exceptionally portable rig.

Run it through a Celestion Vintage 30-loaded Rectifier 2x12 when you want more low-frequency authority and aggressive projection.

Or connect it to a 4x12 and discover just how large a 25-watt EL84 Badlander can sound.

That's the beauty of the head.

The amplifier stays the same. The cabinet can change with the job.

THE BADLANDER FOR THE PLAYER WHO DOESN'T NEED 100 WATTS

There's a tendency to look at amplifier lineups and assume the biggest model is automatically the best one.

That's not necessarily true.

The Badlander 100 has enormous authority.

The Badlander 50 occupies an excellent middle ground.

But the Badlander 25 offers something neither one can duplicate:

The personality of an EL84 power section combined with extraordinary portability.

At Northeast Music Center, we think that's the reason to buy this model.

Not because it's the least powerful Badlander.

Because it's the EL84 Badlander.

It's compact enough to carry easily.

Powerful enough for serious use.

Flexible enough for recording.

Sophisticated enough for direct performance.

And aggressive enough to deserve the Rectifier name.

For the guitarist who wants a serious MESA without hauling a massive amplifier everywhere, the Badlander 25 makes an exceptionally compelling case.

And Northeast Music Center is proud to offer this compact powerhouse to players looking for genuine MESA tube performance in a package that's remarkably easy to live with.

25/10 watts. Two EL84s. Five 12AX7s. Two channels. Clean, Crunch and Crush on both. CabClone IR. Internal load. 19 pounds.

Don't call it the little Badlander. Call it the EL84 Badlander.
