PRS Custom 24 – Artist Grade Quilted Maple – Tobacco Smokeburst
Artist Grade Quilt • Ebony Fretboard & Veneer • Korean Awabi Old School Birds • DMO Pickups • Smoked Black Hardware
Every so often, a Custom 24 comes through Northeast Music Center that reminds us exactly why this model has remained at the heart of PRS since 1985.
This exceptional USA-made PRS Custom 24 combines an Artist Grade Quilted Maple Top with a beautiful Tobacco Smokeburst finish, creating a dramatically different personality from the brighter colors often associated with highly figured PRS guitars.
Tobacco Smokeburst is particularly effective on this Artist Grade quilt. The warm amber and tobacco tones allow the three-dimensional figuring to remain clearly visible through the center of the guitar, while the darker smoked perimeter frames the top and emphasizes the contours of the PRS violin carve.
Then look at the appointments: an ebony fretboard and matching ebony headstock veneer, Korean Awabi Old School Bird inlays and smoked-black hardware give this Custom 24 an unmistakably upscale character.
Underneath the extraordinary cosmetics is the modern Custom 24 performance package: DMO Treble and Bass pickups, Pattern Thin mahogany neck, 24 frets, 25" scale length, Gen III tremolo and Phase III locking tuners with Wing buttons.
This is exactly the kind of special PRS we love having at Northeast Music Center—visually exceptional, beautifully appointed and, most importantly, built to be played.

Artist Grade Quilt – Tobacco Smokeburst
This is where the personality of this particular Custom 24 really begins.
The Artist Grade quilted maple top has tremendous depth and movement. As light travels across the carved surface, different areas of the quilt appear to rise, fall and change direction.
Tobacco Smokeburst is an ideal finish for this type of maple.
The warmer tobacco and amber coloration through the center lets the figuring remain prominent, while the progressively darker outer burst creates a natural frame around the quilt.
It also accentuates the shape of the Custom 24 itself. As the Tobacco Smokeburst darkens toward the perimeter, the contours of the carved maple top become even more pronounced.
Against the dark outer burst, the smoked-black hardware looks right at home, giving this guitar a sophisticated appearance with just enough modern attitude.
Ebony, Awabi & Special Appointments
The premium specification continues beyond the body.
A mahogany Pattern Thin neck is paired with an ebony fretboard and matching ebony headstock veneer, creating a dark visual foundation that works beautifully with the Tobacco Smokeburst top.
Set into that ebony fretboard are Korean Awabi Old School Bird inlays.
The natural iridescence of the Awabi provides flashes of color as the viewing angle changes, giving the inlays plenty of visual character without taking attention away from the Artist Grade quilt.
It's an exceptionally well-balanced combination:
Tobacco Smokeburst. Artist Grade Quilt. Ebony. Awabi. Smoked Black Hardware.
Each element complements the next rather than competing with it.
PRS DMO Pickups
The Custom 24 is equipped with PRS DMO Treble and Bass humbuckers.
DMO stands for Dynamic, Musical, Open, describing the broad, articulate and vocal character PRS designed into these pickups.
The electronics remain straightforward with Volume and Tone controls and a 5-way blade selector, providing five useful pickup combinations:
- Position 1: Bridge Humbucker
- Position 2: Bridge Humbucker + Neck Single Coil
- Position 3: Bridge + Neck Humbuckers
- Position 4: Bridge Single Coil + Neck Single Coil
- Position 5: Neck Humbucker
That gives the Custom 24 the ability to move from powerful full humbucker sounds into brighter and more articulate textures without adding unnecessary controls.
From clean passages and blues to classic rock and modern high-gain tones, the Custom 24 remains one of the most versatile instruments in the PRS lineup.
Pattern Thin – 24 Frets – 25" Scale
A mahogany Pattern Thin neck keeps the playing experience unmistakably Custom 24.
The 25" scale length strikes a comfortable balance between traditional shorter- and longer-scale electric designs, while the 10" fretboard radius and 24-fret layout provide excellent access for both rhythm and lead playing.
The ebony fretboard gives this particular instrument a smooth playing surface while adding another premium element to an already exceptional specification.
Gen III Tremolo & Phase III Locking Tuners
The PRS Patented Gen III Tremolo provides smooth expressive control while maintaining the tuning stability and vibration transfer expected from the USA Core platform.
At the headstock, PRS Phase III locking tuners with Wing buttons provide secure tuning, quick string changes and PRS's lightweight tuner-button design.
Both are finished as part of this guitar's smoked-black hardware package, which looks especially striking against the Tobacco Smokeburst finish.

The Northeast Music Center Perspective
After more than three decades of working with PRS, we've learned that exceptional specifications alone don't necessarily create an exceptional guitar.
The memorable instruments are the ones where the woods, finish, appointments and fundamental design all seem to belong together.
That's what makes this Custom 24 special.
The Artist Grade quilt is beautiful enough to be the centerpiece, and Tobacco Smokeburst is exactly the kind of finish that lets it remain the centerpiece. The warm center highlights the movement of the maple, while the darker perimeter adds depth and definition.
The ebony fretboard and headstock veneer naturally continue that darker theme. The Korean Awabi Birds provide just enough contrast, and the smoked-black hardware ties the entire design together.
And underneath all of those premium appointments is still a Custom 24—the guitar that introduced PRS to the world in 1985 and remains one of the company's defining instruments.
At Northeast Music Center, we've spent more than three decades working closely with PRS guitars, and instruments like this are exactly why we remain so passionate about the brand. It's not simply about checking boxes on a specification sheet. It's about finding combinations that work as a complete instrument.
For the player or collector looking for a Custom 24 that stands well apart from a standard production example while remaining unmistakably PRS, this guitar deserves a serious look.
This exceptional PRS Custom 24 Artist Grade Quilted Maple in Tobacco Smokeburst is available now at Northeast Music Center.
