A PRS Built to Go Lower

The heart of the SE 277 is its 27.7" scale length. That extra length provides the string tension and definition necessary for lower tunings while helping individual notes remain clear and articulate. PRS ships the guitar in standard B tuning: B-E-A-D-F#-B, using a substantial 14-68 string set.

That makes the SE 277 an obvious choice for massive riffs and modern high-gain sounds, but calling it simply a "metal guitar" misses much of what makes this model interesting.

Clean passages have tremendous depth. Chords take on a wider, almost piano-like range, and the lower register opens possibilities for atmospheric music, alternative rock, blues, funk, ambient textures, and arrangements that combine traditional guitar voicings with bass-register notes.

PRS 85/15 "S" Pickups

A pair of PRS 85/15 "S" pickups gives the SE 277 the clarity necessary to handle its extended frequency range.

These pickups deliver strong output while maintaining definition in both the high and low frequencies—particularly important on a baritone guitar where muddy low notes can quickly become a problem.

A straightforward control layout consists of a master Volume, push/pull Tone control, and 3-way pickup selector. Pulling the tone control engages the coil split, adding brighter single-coil-style textures to the guitar's two full humbucking voices.

The result is a baritone that can move from huge distorted rhythm tones to articulate cleans without requiring a complicated control system.

String-Through Resonance & Sustain

PRS equips the SE 277 with its Plate Style string-through bridge. Individual saddles allow precise intonation, while the strings pass through the body to encourage resonance and sustain.

Combined with the guitar's maple top, mahogany back, set-neck construction, and longer scale, the design gives the SE 277 a solid, immediate response that works especially well when clarity and note separation matter.

Charcoal Burst
