MESA/Boogie 2x12 Rectifier Horizontal Cabinet – British Cabernet, Cream & Tan Grille
Legendary Rectifier cabinet performance in a stunning custom configuration. Finished in rich British Cabernet with a Cream & Tan grille, this MESA/Boogie Horizontal Rectifier 2x12 combines two Celestion Vintage 30 speakers, 120 watts of power handling, a sealed Baltic birch enclosure, and the massive punch and projection that have made the Rectifier 2x12 one of MESA’s most respected guitar cabinets.
There are guitar cabinets—and then there are cabinets that become part of the identity of an amplifier.
The MESA/Boogie 2x12 Horizontal Rectifier belongs firmly in the second category.
Originally designed by matching the dimensions of the bottom two speakers of MESA's Standard Oversized Rectifier 4x12, the Horizontal Rectifier 2x12 was created to deliver substantial 4x12-inspired punch, projection, and low-frequency authority in a more manageable two-speaker enclosure.
This particular cabinet takes that legendary platform and gives it an unmistakably custom appearance.
British Cabernet.
Cream & Tan grille.
Two Celestion Vintage 30s.
It's a beautiful combination—rich and sophisticated without losing the purposeful look of a serious MESA cabinet.
Available from Northeast Music Center, this is an exceptional choice for players who want genuine Rectifier cabinet performance with a custom appearance that stands apart from the standard black enclosure.

TWO CELESTION VINTAGE 30s — THE SPEAKERS MATTER
Inside this cabinet are:
2 × Celestion Vintage 30 speakers.
The Vintage 30 has become deeply associated with MESA's Rectifier cabinet sound, and for good reason.
Its strong midrange presence, warmth, projection, and ability to retain definition under substantial gain make it an exceptionally effective speaker for powerful tube amplifiers. MESA specifically points to the combination of low-end response, midrange punch and bite, and the warmth and cut of the Vintage 30s as fundamental characteristics of the Horizontal Rectifier cabinet.
That translates into a cabinet that can handle far more than one style of music.
High-gain rhythm tones hit with authority.
Palm-muted notes stay physical and controlled.
Lead tones cut through.
Complex chords retain definition.
And cleaner or lower-gain sounds still have enough warmth and dimension to make this cabinet far more versatile than its Rectifier name might initially suggest.
BUILT FROM THE BOTTOM HALF OF A RECTIFIER 4x12
This is one of the best stories behind this cabinet.
MESA didn't simply decide to put two Vintage 30s into a rectangular enclosure and call it a Rectifier 2x12.
The original Horizontal Rectifier cabinet was designed by matching the dimensions of the lower two-speaker section of MESA's Standard Oversized Rectifier 4x12.
That design heritage matters.
The cabinet has substantial internal volume.
It's sealed.
It's deep.
And it's designed to produce the kind of low-frequency authority and physical punch guitarists normally associate with much larger cabinets.
That's why the Horizontal Rectifier 2x12 has developed such a strong reputation among players who want a big cabinet sound without automatically moving to a 4x12.
4x12 ATTITUDE WITHOUT HAULING THE 4x12
This is arguably the cabinet's biggest selling point.
There are times when a 4x12 is wonderful.
There are also plenty of gigs, rehearsals, studios, stages, and vehicles where bringing one simply doesn't make sense.
That's where this cabinet shines.
MESA itself positions the Horizontal Rectifier 2x12 as the solution for those situations—describing its sound as substantial enough to make you question whether there's actually a 4x12 behind you.
You still get:
Two Vintage 30s.
120 watts of handling.
A substantial sealed enclosure.
World-class low-frequency response.
Strong midrange projection.
Classic Rectifier punch.
But you're doing it with a 62-pound 2x12 cabinet instead of transporting a full oversized Rectifier 4x12.
For a working guitarist, that's a meaningful advantage.
SEALED CONSTRUCTION — TIGHT, CONTROLLED AND POWERFUL
The closed-back design is fundamental to the personality of this cabinet.
A sealed enclosure behaves differently from an open-back cabinet.
The low frequencies remain more contained and focused.
The attack feels immediate.
The cabinet projects forward with authority.
And when you're using substantial gain or lower tunings, that controlled response can be particularly valuable.
It's one reason the Horizontal Rectifier became so closely associated with rock and high-gain guitar.
But don't mistake that reputation for a limitation.
MESA specifically describes this cabinet as an excellent choice across styles despite its strong association with high-gain rock, alternative, and metal.
BUILT LIKE A MESA CABINET SHOULD BE
MESA doesn't treat the enclosure as an afterthought.
The Rectifier cabinet uses void-free marine-grade Baltic birch, with super-strong rabbet corners that are glued and nailed.
The speaker baffle uses dado-joint construction and additional bracing, while the grille is wrapped around a separate grille board rather than directly around the speaker baffle.
Those details aren't there simply to create an impressive specification sheet.
A speaker cabinet has to deal with enormous acoustic energy.
It has to remain structurally solid.
It has to survive transportation.
And most importantly, it needs to provide a stable platform that allows the speakers to perform as intended.
That's part of why a great cabinet can make such a dramatic difference to the sound and feel of an amplifier.
BRITISH CABERNET — A BEAUTIFUL CUSTOM MESA FINISH
Then there's this particular cabinet.
British Cabernet gives the Rectifier enclosure a completely different personality from standard Black Bronco.
It's deep, rich, sophisticated, and distinctive without becoming visually excessive.
Pair it with the Cream & Tan grille, and the contrast brings out the cabinet's vintage side while still looking unmistakably MESA.
This is the kind of custom configuration we particularly enjoy offering at Northeast Music Center.
A Rectifier cabinet is something a guitarist can own for decades.
There's no reason it has to look exactly like every other one.
CREAM & TAN JUTE — MORE THAN JUST APPEARANCE
The Cream & Tan grille is visually beautiful, but MESA's jute grille material also serves a functional purpose.
MESA describes its grille material as strong twisted jute treated with a special coating that helps filter some top end for a sweeter response.
That makes the grille part of the complete cabinet design rather than simply decoration.
And aesthetically, Cream & Tan against British Cabernet is an exceptional combination.
It's refined enough to pair beautifully with Mark Series, Fillmore, or California Tweed-inspired custom amplifiers while still looking completely at home beneath a Rectifier or Badlander.
WHAT SHOULD YOU PUT ON TOP OF IT?
One of the great things about the Horizontal Rectifier is that it doesn't have to be paired exclusively with a Dual Rectifier.
This cabinet can make an exceptional partner for:
MESA/Boogie Dual Rectifie
MESA/Boogie Triple Rectifier
Badlander 50
Badlander 100
Mark VII
Mark IIC+ Reissue
JP-2C
Mark V:35
and plenty of other tube amplifiers capable of working properly with its 8-ohm impedance and 120-watt power handling.
The cabinet's combination of tight low end, Vintage 30 midrange, and substantial internal volume makes it especially attractive for amplifiers where definition and physical punch matter.
HORIZONTAL OR VERTICAL RECTIFIER?
Because Northeast Music Center carries both configurations, it's worth helping the customer understand the difference.
The Vertical/Slant Rectifier 2x12 offers a narrower footprint and an angled upper speaker that provides a monitor-like effect toward the player.
The Horizontal Rectifier 2x12 gives you the traditional wide format and the direct design heritage of the lower half of MESA's Oversized Rectifier 4x12.
MESA notes that the two cabinets have roughly similar interior area and therefore similar overall tone, punch, and detail.
The choice becomes partly about projection, physical layout, and the type of rig you're building.
For players chasing the classic wide Rectifier-cabinet experience, the Horizontal version is hard to beat.
62 POUNDS — AND CASTERS ARE INCLUDED
MESA lists the Horizontal Rectifier 2x12 at 62 lbs., measuring:
17½" High
30⅛" Wide
14¼" Deep.
And importantly, your exact Northeast Music Center cabinet includes MESA's Track-Loc removable caster kit and fitted slipcover.
That's exactly what you want on a cabinet designed for real-world use.
Roll it when you can.
Remove the casters when you want the cabinet planted firmly on stage.
Cover it when it's going into the vehicle.
Small details—but important ones for musicians who actually move their equipment.
A CABINET YOU CAN BUILD A RIG AROUND
The amplifier head may get most of the attention when players put together a rig.
But the cabinet determines an enormous part of what ultimately reaches your ears.
That's why the Horizontal Rectifier 2x12 has remained such an important part of the MESA lineup.
Two UK-made Celestion Vintage 30s.
120 watts.
8 ohms.
Sealed Baltic birch construction.
4x12-inspired dimensions.
Track-Loc removable casters.
62 pounds.
And in this case, an exceptional British Cabernet / Cream & Tan custom configuration.
At Northeast Music Center, we think this is the kind of cabinet you buy once and build multiple amplifier rigs around for years to come.
Whether you're pairing it with a Badlander, Mark Series amplifier, Rectifier, JP-2C, or another compatible tube head, the Horizontal Rectifier gives your amplifier a serious foundation.
Big sound. Serious construction. Legendary Vintage 30 punch. And a custom MESA appearance that looks every bit as good as it sounds.
