MESA/Boogie Badlander 100 All-Tube Amplifier Head – Wine Taurus
100 watts of modern Rectifier authority—with a tighter bottom end, aggressive midrange, EL34 power, and the immediacy serious high-gain players demand. Finished in rich Wine Taurus, this Badlander 100 combines unmistakable MESA muscle with a distinctly custom Boogie appearance.
The MESA/Boogie Badlander 100 takes the legendary Rectifier concept in a different direction.
This isn't simply another version of the Dual Rectifier.
MESA tightened the low end, brought the midrange forward, increased harmonic detail, and paired an all-new preamp with an EL34-powered 100/50/20-watt power section to create a Rectifier that responds with greater speed, precision, and immediacy. MESA describes it as a tighter, meaner evolution of Rectifier tone.
And this particular Badlander adds something you won't get from the standard black version:
Wine Taurus.
It's a sophisticated custom cosmetic treatment that gives this aggressive modern amplifier some unmistakable old-school Boogie personality.
Available from Northeast Music Center, the Badlander 100 is an exceptional choice for the guitarist who loves the size and authority of a 100-watt MESA but wants a more focused, percussive response.

A RECTIFIER WITH A DIFFERENT ATTITUDE
The Rectifier name carries expectations.
Huge low end.
Massive gain.
Big-stage authority.
The Badlander keeps the power and attitude but changes the way the amplifier delivers it.
MESA designed the Badlander around a tighter low-frequency response, more aggressive midrange character, enhanced harmonic content, and greater touch sensitivity.
That's particularly important for modern high-gain playing.
Fast alternate picking needs definition.
Palm-muted riffs need impact without turning to mud.
Extended chords need enough separation that individual notes remain intelligible.
Lower tunings need a power section capable of keeping the bottom end under control.
The Badlander was built with exactly those demands in mind.
At Northeast Music Center, we'd describe it this way:
If traditional Rectifier tone is massive, the Badlander makes that mass move faster.
CLEAN / CRUNCH / CRUSH — ON BOTH CHANNELS
One of the smartest features of the Badlander is MESA's Channel Cloning architecture.
Both Channel 1 and Channel 2 give you access to the same three modes:
CLEAN
CRUNCH
CRUSH
That means you're not locked into the usual idea of Channel 1 being clean and Channel 2 being high gain.
Want Clean on both channels with different EQ and volume settings?
You can.
Want Crunch for rhythm and another Crunch setting for lead?
Absolutely.
Want two different Crush sounds?
That's possible too.
Each channel gets its own Gain, Treble, Mid, Bass, Presence, Master, and CabClone IR selection.
It's a simple design with tremendous flexibility.
CLEAN
Don't overlook this mode simply because Badlander wears the Rectifier name.
Clean provides the foundation for genuinely useful clean and pushed-clean sounds while retaining the amplifier's immediate response.
That makes the Badlander much more than a dedicated metal amplifier.
CRUNCH
This may be the sleeper mode.
Crunch moves through muscular classic-rock rhythm sounds, hard rock, punk, alternative, and into serious gain depending on how you set the controls.
The EL34 power section is especially at home here.
There's bite.
Midrange authority.
And a wonderfully physical response beneath the hands.
CRUSH
Here's where the Badlander earns its name.
Crush is the modern high-gain voice.
Tight.
Fast.
Aggressive.
Focused.
There's plenty of saturation available, but the objective isn't simply adding more gain.
It's maintaining definition inside the gain.
That's the distinction.
100 / 50 / 20 WATTS
The Badlander 100 gives you three very different power configurations from one amplifier.
100 WATTS
All four EL34s operate in Class A/B Pentode for maximum authority, punch, headroom, and low-frequency control.
50 WATTS
Two EL34s operate in Class A/B Pentode.
You retain big-power response but with a different feel and power-section interaction.
20 WATTS
Two power tubes operate in Class A/B Triode, producing a sweeter, more compressed response at reduced power.
This is important:
The power switch isn't merely a volume control.
Each setting changes how the output section feels and responds.
For the player who uses the amplifier in a studio one night and on a stage the next, that's tremendously useful.
EL34 POWER — WITH A 6L6 OPTION
The Badlander 100 ships around four MESA EL34 power tubes, contributing significantly to its personality.
EL34s bring the kind of upper-midrange character, harmonic complexity, and aggressive response that works beautifully with the Badlander's tighter Rectifier architecture.
But MESA gives you another option.
A rear-panel Bias Select switch allows the amplifier to operate with compatible 6L6 power tubes as well.
That gives experienced players another way to tailor the amplifier's response.
FULL POWER / VARIAC POWER
Here's another classic MESA feature worth explaining rather than simply listing.
The Badlander includes a Full Power / Variac Power switch.
Variac mode changes the amplifier's operating voltage and consequently its response, providing another feel and personality from the same basic settings.
Combine that with:
100 / 50 / 20 watts.
EL34 / 6L6 compatibility.
Clean / Crunch / Crush.
Two independently configurable channels.
And there's considerably more flexibility here than the straightforward control panel initially suggests.
CABCLONE IR — BUILT INTO THE AMPLIFIER
This is one of the Badlander's most important features for modern players.
MESA builds CabClone IR directly into the amplifier.
The Badlander comes loaded with eight MESA cabinet impulse responses, including Rectifier 4x12, Rectifier 2x12, Rectifier 1x12, Thiele, Lone Star, and California Tweed cabinet options. It also supports compatible third-party IRs via USB.
Each channel can have its own IR selection.
That means your Clean sound can feed one virtual cabinet while Crush feeds another.
You also get a:
Balanced XLR Direct Output
Headphone Output
IR Level Control
Ground Lift
and most importantly,
an internal amplifier load.
PLAY AND RECORD WITHOUT A SPEAKER CABINET
The internal load makes the Badlander an extremely capable recording amplifier.
When configured correctly, you can operate the amplifier without a physical speaker cabinet connected, using the internal load and CabClone IR output instead.
Think about what that means.
You're not recording a digital model of a Badlander.
You're running an actual:
5 × 12AX7 preamp
into an actual:
4 × EL34 power section
and then capturing the result through a cabinet impulse response.
You can record silently.
Practice through headphones.
Send a consistent XLR feed to front-of-house.
Or use a physical cabinet and the direct IR output simultaneously.
For today's working guitarist, that functionality is incredibly valuable.
41 POUNDS OF SERIOUS MESA
The Badlander 100 weighs 41 lbs. and measures 9⅝" H × 22¾" W × 10⅜" D.
That's worth pointing out because your current Northeast Music Center page lists 45 lbs. as Shipping Weight
Shipping Weight: 45 lbs.
Actual Amplifier Weight: 41 lbs.
WINE TAURUS — NOT YOUR STANDARD BADLANDER
Then there's the reason this particular amplifier stands apart visually.
Wine Taurus.
The standard Badlander is an aggressive-looking black amplifier.
This one has a completely different personality.
The rich Wine Taurus covering adds a sophisticated custom-Boogie appearance without becoming flashy or distracting.
And that distinction is worth selling.
At this level, a player isn't merely buying a piece of equipment.
They're choosing an amplifier that may sit in their studio, music room, or touring rig for many years.
There's nothing wrong with wanting it to look as special as it sounds.
That's why Northeast Music Center enjoys offering custom-configured MESA amplifiers like this one.
WHO IS THE BADLANDER 100 FOR?
The Badlander makes particular sense for the player who wants Rectifier authority without an oversized or loose low end.
Modern metal?
Absolutely.
Hard rock?
Without question.
Progressive music?
It's extremely well suited.
But don't let those genres define it.
Clean and Crunch dramatically expand what this amplifier can do, and the EL34 power section gives it a personality that can work beautifully for classic rock, alternative, punk, heavier blues-rock, and contemporary guitar music.
That's ultimately why the Badlander 100 is such an interesting MESA.
It doesn't abandon the Rectifier.
It refines the concept.
At Northeast Music Center, we see it as an amplifier for the player who wants the size, authority, and unmistakable attitude of a big MESA but values speed, definition, dynamics, and midrange presence just as much as gain.
And this Wine Taurus version adds the finishing touch:
It doesn't look like everybody else's Badlander either.
100/50/20 watts. Four EL34s. Two channels. Clean, Crunch and Crush on both. CabClone IR. Internal load. Wine Taurus.
Rectifier muscle—tightened, focused, and ready for the modern player.
