LONG CABLE RUNS WITHOUT SACRIFICING YOUR SIGNAL
Long instrument cables can become a problem in professional guitar rigs.
On a large stage, your pedalboard may be a considerable distance from the amplifier. In a studio, the amplifier might be isolated in a separate room while the guitarist performs from the control room.
That's exactly the type of situation the Clearlink system was designed to address.
Used with a Clearlink Send, your signal can travel through a balanced XLR cable for distances of up to 330 feet, with the Clearlink Converter positioned near the amplifier to convert that balanced signal back to the unbalanced 1/4" signal the amp expects.
The result is a professional approach to getting your guitar signal from here to there without simply running an enormous instrument cable across the room or stage.
JENSEN AUDIO ISOLATION TRANSFORMER
At the heart of the Clearlink Converter is a high-quality Jensen Audio isolation transformer.
This electrically isolates the 1/4" output from the input and provides galvanic isolation between the two sides of the signal path.
Why does that matter?
Ground loops.
When multiple pieces of equipment share different ground paths, the result can be the familiar buzz or hum that drives musicians and technicians crazy.
The Clearlink provides a safe way to isolate the audio connection without defeating the electrical safety ground on your amplifier.
MULTI-AMP RIGS
Running two or more amplifiers simultaneously can sound enormous.
It can also introduce problems.
One of the most common is ground-loop hum.
Another is phase cancellation, where two amplifiers operating together suddenly sound thinner, quieter, or lacking in low-end response.
The Clearlink gives you tools to address both.
GROUND SWITCH – isolates the audio ground connection to help eliminate ground-loop hum.
PHASE SWITCH – reverses output phase, allowing you to correct phase relationships between amplifiers.
For guitarists running wet/dry rigs, stereo systems, multiple amplifiers, or sophisticated switching setups, those two little switches can be incredibly valuable.
BALANCED OR UNBALANCED INPUT
The Clearlink's combination input accepts several common professional signal formats:
XLR Balanced
1/4" TRS Balanced
1/4" TS Unbalanced
That versatility allows the Clearlink to integrate into considerably more than one specific MESA system.
Its 1/4" output is unbalanced and electrically isolated from the input through the internal transformer, making it appropriate for feeding the input of an instrument amplifier.
PASSIVE — NO POWER REQUIRED
One of the nicest practical features is what the Clearlink doesn't require:
Power.
The Clearlink Converter / ISO Transformer is completely passive.
No wall adapter.
No additional pedalboard power connection.
No battery to replace.
Connect it into the signal chain and let the transformer do its job.
STAGE AND STUDIO
The Clearlink isn't only for large concert stages.
It's equally useful in recording environments.
An amplifier can remain isolated in a tracking room while the player and pedalboard stay in the control room, with the long portion of the signal path carried over balanced cabling.
For a studio that regularly moves guitar signals between rooms, this can become a very practical piece of infrastructure.
IMPORTANT — THIS IS NOT A DI BOX
The Clearlink may look similar to a DI box, but MESA specifically identifies an important distinction:
The Clearlink Converter / ISO Transformer is not a DI box.
It is also not a traditional re-amping device.
Its purpose is signal conversion, isolation, long-line reception, ground-loop management, and phase correction.
Understanding that distinction helps the customer choose the right tool for the job.
SMALL BOX — SERIOUS PROBLEM SOLVER
At just over half a pound and less than four inches wide, the Clearlink takes up very little space.
But in the right rig, it can solve problems that would otherwise consume an entire soundcheck.
Long cable run?
Ground-loop hum?
Multiple amplifiers fighting each other?
Need to convert a balanced line back to an isolated unbalanced instrument signal?
That's where the Clearlink earns its place in the rig.
