PRS S2 Custom 24 Poplar Burl Limited Edition – Charcoal Burst (S/N: S2089345)

Only 150 Made in Charcoal Burst • Poplar Burl Top • USA Made • Smoked Black Hardware

This is not your everyday S2 Custom 24.

The PRS S2 Custom 24 Poplar Burl Limited Edition in Charcoal Burst, serial number S2089345, takes the unmistakable Custom 24 platform and gives it an entirely different visual personality with a dramatic Poplar Burl top, satin finish, smoked-black hardware and Ivory Old School Bird inlays.

And there's another important part of the story:

Only 150 were produced in Charcoal Burst.

Built by PRS in Maryland, this limited S2 combines that distinctive Poplar Burl appearance with a mahogany body and neck, Pattern Thin profile, East Indian rosewood fretboard, 24 frets, 25" scale, PRS 85/15 pickups and PRS tremolo.

It's visually unusual, genuinely limited and unmistakably PRS.

Available now at Northeast Music Center with its PRS gig bag.

Poplar Burl – No Two Tops Look Exactly Alike

The first thing that separates this limited edition from a conventional S2 Custom 24 is obvious.

Poplar Burl.

Unlike the more predictable directional patterns of flame maple, burl figuring is organic and irregular. Swirls, clusters, eyes and contrasting grain structures move across the top without following a uniform pattern.

That means each guitar develops an appearance of its own.

The Charcoal Burst finish is particularly effective because the darker perimeter frames the burl while still allowing the natural complexity of the wood to remain visible through the center.

Add the satin finish and smoked-black hardware, and the result is a Custom 24 with a darker, more understated personality than the brightly colored high-gloss PRS guitars many players are accustomed to seeing.

Only 150 in Charcoal Burst

The limited production is an important part of this guitar's identity.

Only 150 S2 Custom 24 Poplar Burl guitars were produced in Charcoal Burst, making this a genuinely limited variation of the Maryland-built S2 Custom 24.

That's significant because the limited nature of this model isn't simply a different color applied to a standard guitar.

The Poplar Burl top itself ensures that every one of those 150 instruments has its own individual grain pattern.

So while another guitar may share the same model and finish designation, the natural burl figuring of serial number S2089345 belongs to this guitar alone.

The Custom 24 Foundation

Underneath the unusual top is one of the most recognizable designs PRS has ever created.

The 24-fret, 25" scale Custom 24 platform offers excellent upper-fret access and a comfortable balance between traditional electric-guitar scale lengths.

A mahogany neck with Pattern Thin profile gives the guitar a fast, familiar PRS feel, while the East Indian rosewood fretboard uses a comfortable 10" radius.

The Ivory Old School Bird inlays provide another interesting visual departure from the standard PRS presentation and look especially good against the rosewood board.

PRS 85/15 Pickups & Expanded Switching

A pair of PRS 85/15 Treble and Bass pickups gives this S2 Custom 24 plenty of range.

Designed to combine clarity and extended frequency response with the authority of a humbucker, the 85/15 platform works particularly well with the versatility expected from a Custom 24.

This guitar combines Volume and Push/Pull Tone controls with a 5-way blade selector, providing access to full humbucker power as well as brighter, more articulate pickup combinations.

That makes the guitar capable of moving comfortably from clean and edge-of-breakup sounds through classic rock and heavier gain without losing the clarity that makes the Custom 24 such a useful stage and studio instrument.

USA-Made S2 Craftsmanship

The S2 designation is important.

This guitar was built by PRS in Stevensville, Maryland, giving it genuine USA PRS construction rather than simply borrowing the Custom 24 name and shape.

The S2 Series was created to focus on the things players experience every time they pick up the instrument: quality construction, neck feel, fretwork, reliability and musical performance.

This limited edition adds something else—the visual individuality of Poplar Burl and the exclusivity of a small production run.

The Northeast Music Center Perspective

After more than three decades of working with PRS, Northeast Music Center has seen countless variations of the Custom 24.

That's exactly why guitars like this remain interesting.

It doesn't try to imitate an elaborate Core or Private Stock instrument. Instead, it takes the USA-built S2 Custom 24 platform and gives it an identity that immediately separates it from standard production.

The Poplar Burl is the centerpiece. Charcoal Burst complements it. The satin finish and smoked-black hardware reinforce the darker aesthetic, while the Ivory Old School Birds provide just enough contrast.

Then there's the production number—only 150 in Charcoal Burst.

For a player who wants the feel and versatility of a Maryland-built PRS but also wants something considerably less common than a standard S2 Custom 24, serial number S2089345 makes a compelling case.

And because every piece of Poplar Burl develops differently, you're not simply buying one of 150 Charcoal Burst guitars. You're getting the individual top and grain pattern belonging to this particular instrument.

This PRS S2 Custom 24 Poplar Burl Limited Edition in Charcoal Burst is available now at Northeast Music Center with its PRS gig bag.
