Semi-Hollow Resonance Meets Serious Versatility

The single F-hole immediately tells you this isn't a conventional solidbody PRS.

Its semi-hollow construction adds an open, resonant quality to the instrument while retaining the focus and response players expect from an electric guitar. The mahogany back supplies a warm, substantial foundation, while the maple top adds clarity and definition.

Visually, the figured maple veneer gives the Charcoal Burst finish plenty of depth without becoming overly flashy.

58/15 LT “S” + Narrowfield DD “S”

The pickup configuration is really the heart of the SE Special Semi-Hollow.

PRS uses a 58/15 LT “S” humbucker in both the neck and bridge positions, with a Narrowfield DD “S” pickup in the middle.

The 58/15 LT “S” pickups provide full humbucker character with clarity and articulation, while the Narrowfield DD “S” adds another tonal texture between them. Its narrower magnetic aperture helps deliver a focused, articulate response that occupies its own space between familiar humbucker and traditional single-coil territory.

Put all three together and this becomes much more than another H/S/H-style guitar.

12 Pickup Configurations

This is where the SE Special Semi-Hollow becomes especially interesting.

The 5-way blade selector provides:

Position 1: Bridge Pickup
Position 2: Bridge + Middle Pickups
Position 3: Bridge + Neck Pickups
Position 4: Middle + Neck Pickups
Position 5: Neck Pickup

Then PRS adds two independent mini-toggle switches—one controlling the bridge humbucker and one controlling the neck humbucker.

Toggle down keeps its corresponding 58/15 LT “S” pickup in humbucker mode.

Toggle up coil-taps that pickup.

Because the neck and bridge pickups can be tapped independently, you can mix full humbucker and tapped voices depending on the blade-switch position. Altogether, PRS provides 12 distinct pickup configurations.

That means you can move from full, warm humbucker sounds to brighter, more articulate textures—and combinations in between—without ever changing guitars.

For a player who enjoys actually using a guitar's controls rather than leaving everything in one position all night, there is a lot here to explore.
