PRS SE Swamp Ash Special – Vintage Sunburst (S/N: CTII003739)
Includes PRS Padded Gig Bag
The PRS SE Swamp Ash Special brings a distinctly different personality to the PRS lineup. With its swamp ash body, bolt-on maple neck, maple fretboard, H/S/H pickup configuration, and classic Vintage Sunburst finish, this guitar combines PRS playability with an articulate, lively response that can cover considerably more ground than its traditional appearance might suggest.
At Northeast Music Center, we particularly like the Swamp Ash Special for players who want the comfort and refinement of a PRS but are looking for something with more snap, attack, and single-coil character than a conventional dual-humbucker guitar.

Swamp Ash, Maple & a Different PRS Personality
The Swamp Ash Special isn't simply a Custom 24 with different pickups.
Its swamp ash body provides a clear, responsive foundation with tight lows, strong note definition, and a lively upper-frequency response. Pair that with a bolt-on maple neck and maple fretboard and the result is a guitar with immediate attack and plenty of articulation.
That combination gives the Swamp Ash Special a character all its own within the SE family.
The 25" scale length retains the familiar PRS balance between comfortable string tension and note definition, while the Wide Thin neck profile offers a fast, comfortable feel for rhythm work, lead playing, and more technical styles.
And visually, the combination of Vintage Sunburst over swamp ash with a maple fretboard and PRS bird inlays gives this guitar a great blend of traditional American styling and unmistakable PRS identity.
85/15 “S” Humbuckers Meet the AS-01 Single Coil
The pickup system is where this guitar really starts to separate itself.
PRS 85/15 “S” humbuckers occupy the bridge and neck positions, providing the clarity, extended frequency response, and power needed for everything from clean playing to overdriven and higher-gain sounds.
Between them sits the PRS-Designed AS-01 Single Coil “S.”
The AS-01 uses both alnico and steel components—the “AS” designation refers to that combination—and was designed to give the Swamp Ash Special a strong, musical single-coil voice that works naturally alongside the two 85/15 “S” humbuckers.
Rather than feeling like three unrelated pickups installed in the same guitar, the combination gives the Swamp Ash Special a broad and genuinely useful tonal range.
Five-Way Switching – Simple & Versatile
The 5-way blade selector makes accessing those sounds straightforward.
Move from full humbucker voices into brighter combination sounds without complicated switching or having to think about multiple controls in the middle of a performance.
That range allows the SE Swamp Ash Special to move comfortably through rock, blues, country, funk, pop, alternative, clean rhythm work, and plenty more.
There's real twang available when you want it, but this isn't a guitar limited to country or traditional single-coil territory. The 85/15 “S” humbuckers give it enough authority to handle considerably heavier material as well.
That's one of the reasons we find this model so interesting at Northeast Music Center: it can cover a surprising amount of musical ground while maintaining its own identifiable character.
PRS Patented Tremolo
The PRS Patented Tremolo adds another dimension of expression while retaining the smooth feel associated with the PRS tremolo design.
Whether you're adding subtle movement to chords, expressive vibrato to lead lines, or more pronounced pitch effects, the tremolo fits naturally into the overall versatility of the Swamp Ash Special.

A PRS for the Player Who Wants Something Different
The SE Swamp Ash Special occupies an interesting space in the PRS lineup.
It still feels unmistakably like a PRS, but the swamp ash body, bolt-on maple neck, maple fretboard, H/S/H pickup configuration, and 5-way switching give it a brighter, more immediate personality than many traditional PRS models.
You can get warm humbucker sounds, articulate cleans, cutting rhythm tones, single-coil-flavored textures, blues, rock, country-style snap, and plenty in between—all from one instrument.
And this Vintage Sunburst version has an especially classic appearance that works beautifully with the natural character of the swamp ash and maple.
This individual PRS SE Swamp Ash Special in Vintage Sunburst, serial number CTII003739, is available now at Northeast Music Center and includes its PRS padded gig bag.
