The Taylor Custom Shop Catch Event gives authorized Taylor dealers an opportunity to select from a specially curated collection of Custom Shop instruments showcasing combinations of premium woods, finishes, appointments and specifications beyond the regular production lineup.

 

That's where Northeast Music Center selected this C14ce B6008.

 

We weren't simply ordering another guitar from a catalog.

 

We had the opportunity to evaluate a special group of Taylor Custom Shop instruments and bring home guitars that we believed deserved a place in our showroom.

 

Serial number 1202256085 is one of those guitars.

 

For its next owner, that means something more than exclusivity. It means this instrument was specifically chosen because we believed its combination of tonewoods, design, aesthetics and musical potential made it worthy of representing the Taylor Custom Shop at Northeast Music Center.

 

LUTZ SPRUCE & INDIAN ROSEWOOD

 

At the center of the instrument is a formidable pairing: Lutz Spruce and Indian Rosewood.

 

Lutz Spruce makes an exceptional soundboard material for a guitar intended to cover a wide dynamic range. It can respond beautifully to a lighter touch while retaining the headroom needed when the player begins driving the top more aggressively.

 

That makes it particularly well suited to the Grand Auditorium platform.

 

Underneath it, Indian Rosewood back and sides provide the depth and harmonic richness that have made rosewood one of the enduring standards of premium acoustic-guitar construction.

Open chords can develop harmonic complexity without losing the fundamental note.

SCALLOPED V-CLASS BRACING

 

Inside the body is Taylor's Scalloped V-Class bracing architecture.

Taylor's V-Class philosophy was developed around improving the relationship between volume, sustain and intonation, while this scalloped implementation further refines the response of the top.

 

On an instrument using Lutz Spruce and Indian Rosewood, that matters.

 

There is substantial harmonic information available from these woods. The bracing has to allow that complexity to develop while keeping the guitar articulate enough that individual notes don't disappear inside it.

CHARCOAL EDGEBURST / KONA EDGEBURST

The Lutz Spruce top receives a dramatic Charcoal Edgeburst, creating a sophisticated frame around the soundboard.

 

Turn the guitar over and the personality changes.

 

The Indian Rosewood back and sides receive a Kona Edgeburst, bringing warmth and depth to the naturally rich appearance of the rosewood.

 

A Heel Burst carries the aesthetic transition onto the neck.

 

Rather than applying one finish treatment everywhere, Taylor has used different shades to complement the woods underneath them.

 

The result feels curated rather than decorated.

 

BLACK, PAUA & CRELICAM EBONY DETAILS

 

Look closer and the Custom Shop character becomes even more apparent.

 

The chamfered body treatment incorporates Black and Paua detailing, while West African Crelicam Ebony appears throughout the instrument.

 

The fretboard is Crelicam Ebony with rolled edges, and the specification incorporates additional Paua detailing.

 

At the headstock, a Colorful Crelicam Ebony peghead veneer creates a beautiful natural backdrop for the Paua appointments.

 

Even the bridge receives attention, using Taylor's Crelicam Ebony Curve Wing design.

 

None of these elements exist in isolation.

 

They create a visual language that runs from body to fretboard to headstock.

 

GRACEFUL CINDY INLAYS

 

One of our favorite appointments on this C14ce is the Graceful Cindy fretboard inlay, executed in Paua and Mother of Pearl.

 

It gives the instrument unmistakable Custom Shop identity without overwhelming the natural beauty of the ebony fretboard.

 

That's a difficult balance on a high-end acoustic guitar.

 

Too little decoration and the instrument can fail to communicate how special it is.

 

Too much and the ornamentation begins competing with the woods.

 

Here, the Graceful Cindy motif provides exactly the right amount of artistry.

 

25.5" SCALE – 1-3/4" NUT

 

The playing dimensions remain grounded in Taylor familiarity.

 

The guitar uses a 25.5-inch scale length, 20 frets, a 1-3/4-inch nut width and a 15-inch fretboard radius.

 

The Mahogany neck is finished in satin, helping maintain a smooth playing feel, while the West African Crelicam Ebony fretboard provides the firm, precise surface players expect from a high-end Taylor.

 

For fingerstyle players, the 1-3/4" nut provides useful space for the fretting hand.

 

For players moving between electric and acoustic guitar, the neck remains exceptionally approachable.

 

GOTOH 510 ANTIQUE GOLD HARDWARE

 

The hardware was clearly chosen as part of the overall design rather than added at the end.

 

Gotoh 510 tuners in Antique Gold provide an appropriately premium appearance while complementing the warmer tones found throughout the instrument.

 

The bridge pins are Gray Bone with Awabi dots, another small detail that rewards close inspection.

 

Even appointments that could easily have been ordinary have been considered.

 

That's exactly what we want to see on a Taylor Custom Shop guitar.

 

LR BAGGS ELEMENT VTC

 

For amplified performance, this C14ce is equipped with the LR Baggs Element VTC system.
