MESA/Boogie 1x12 Vintage Thiele Speaker Cabinet – Black Bronco / Wicker Grille

Classic Boogie history in one of MESA's most recognizable compact cabinet designs. The Vintage Thiele combines a proprietary UK-made Celestion C90 with a front-ported Baltic birch enclosure for tight fundamentals, powerful low-end punch, and a surprisingly big voice from a single 12-inch speaker.

The MESA/Boogie Vintage Thiele 1x12 brings back a cabinet design that became an essential part of classic Boogie rigs throughout the 1980s.

Originally developed around the legendary Electro-Voice EVM12L, the compact Thiele cabinet became a favorite companion for Boogie combos and Mark Series heads because it could add focused fundamentals, percussive low end, and considerable authority without requiring a large 2x12 or 4x12 enclosure.

Today's Vintage Thiele carries that concept forward with an era-appropriate proprietary Celestion C90, manufactured in the UK specifically for MESA/Boogie.

Finished in Black Bronco with the classic Wicker Grille, this version captures the unmistakable visual character of vintage Boogie equipment.

Available from Northeast Music Center, it's an especially natural partner for the reborn Mark IIC+—but its combination of compact dimensions, serious power handling, and focused low-end response makes it useful far beyond a single amplifier.

THE CELESTION C90 IS A BIG PART OF THE STORY

This specification should never be buried.

The current Vintage Thiele is loaded with MESA's proprietary Celestion C90, a UK-made speaker created specifically for MESA/Boogie. MESA chose the C90 as an era-appropriate modern voice for the returning Thiele design.

The C90 gives this cabinet substantial headroom while maintaining the forgiving, musical response that allows the Vintage Thiele to work across a surprisingly broad range of gain levels.

Clean tones retain body and definition.

Crunch sounds gain weight without becoming overly congested.

Push a Mark Series amplifier into high gain and the cabinet supplies the focused fundamental and low-frequency authority that make a compact rig feel substantially larger.

For us at Northeast Music Center, that's one of the most important reasons to explain exactly what speaker is inside a cabinet. You're not simply buying a wooden box with a 12-inch speaker—you are buying the interaction between the C90 and the carefully designed ported enclosure.

WHY THE THIELE DESIGN MATTERS

This isn't a conventional closed-back 1x12.

The Vintage Thiele uses a front-ported enclosure, an architecture that became an important part of the classic Boogie sound.

The original version was designed around the Electro-Voice EVM12L and became famous for allowing a relatively compact cabinet to produce tight, powerful fundamentals and surprisingly substantial low-frequency response.

That's the magic of the concept.

A normal compact 1x12 can be wonderfully portable but sometimes sounds exactly like what it is—a small cabinet.

The Thiele approach is designed to make much more effective use of the enclosure.

The result is punch, focus, and low-end authority without moving to a much larger cabinet.

A NATURAL PARTNER FOR THE MARK IIC+

Put a Mark IIC+ on top and the historical connection immediately makes sense.

In fact, MESA specifically recommends the Vintage Thiele for the Mark IIC+ and other 18¾"-wide Mark Series amplifiers.

The cabinet's 18¾-inch width creates a beautifully proportioned compact stack, while the C90 and ported enclosure provide the authority necessary to let a serious Mark Series amplifier breathe.

There's also another excellent application.

Pair the Thiele with an open-back Mark Series combo or cabinet.

The open-back enclosure contributes air, dimensionality, and broader room dispersion, while the Thiele adds focused fundamentals and powerful low end.

Instead of simply adding another speaker, you're combining two complementary cabinet architectures.

BIG BOOGIE TONE WITHOUT THE BIG CABINET

That's ultimately what made the Thiele concept so enduring.

You get a single 12-inch speaker in an enclosure measuring only 18¾ inches wide, yet the cabinet is engineered to produce the kind of punch and low-frequency authority normally associated with something considerably larger.

And at 36 pounds, it's far easier to transport than a traditional large-format cabinet.

For gigging musicians, studio players, or anyone building a compact Mark Series rig, that's an extremely attractive combination.

BLACK BRONCO + WICKER — CLASSIC BOOGIE

Then there's this particular version.

Black Bronco. Wicker Grille. Chrome handle caps.

Few combinations look more unmistakably Boogie.

The Wicker Grille gives this Vintage Thiele the visual connection to the classic Mark Series era that the cabinet itself represents.

Pair it with a Wicker-equipped Mark IIC+ HRG and you have a rig that looks as historically appropriate as it sounds.

At Northeast Music Center, we appreciate products like the Vintage Thiele because they aren't simply recreations for nostalgia's sake. This cabinet solves exactly the same problem today that made the original so useful decades ago:

How do you get serious low-end authority and punch from a compact guitar rig?

MESA's answer was the Thiele.

And Northeast Music Center is proud to offer its return.

One proprietary Celestion C90. 90 watts. 8 ohms. Front-ported Baltic birch construction. Only 18¾ inches wide.

Small cabinet. Serious Boogie authority.
