HRG — HUNDRED-WATT / REVERB / GRAPHIC EQ
Those three letters mean something to serious Boogie players.
The HRG configuration traces its identity back to the classic Boogie ordering language: Hundred-Watt, Reverb and Graphic EQ.
In the Mark IIC+, that combination creates an amplifier with tremendous clean headroom, an exceptionally tight and authoritative low end, and the explosive Lead response that helped make the IIC+ one of the most sought-after MESA amplifiers ever built.
The 100-watt power section isn't here simply to make the amplifier louder.
It gives the IIC+ headroom, punch, immediacy and control.
Big clean chords remain clear and authoritative. Crunch sounds respond immediately to the pick. And when the Lead circuit is engaged, the HRG produces the focused, harmonically rich saturation and tight-tracking low end that made the Mark IIC+ a benchmark for generations of high-gain players.
A 100/60-watt power switch also allows you to alter the amplifier's power and response when the full authority of 100 watts isn't required.
THE MARK IIC+ LEAD VOICE
There are very few guitar amplifiers whose names have become almost shorthand for a particular kind of tone.
The Mark IIC+ is one of them.
Its Lead circuit combines saturation with remarkable definition. Fast passages retain articulation. Palm-muted rhythms remain focused. Sustained notes develop harmonic complexity without losing the fundamental character of the guitar.
That balance of gain, clarity, attack and sustain is a major reason original Mark IIC+ amplifiers became so coveted
And the HRG power section gives that famous preamp an enormous platform from which to work.
THE FIVE-BAND GRAPHIC EQ
Then there are those five unmistakable sliders.
MESA's 80Hz, 240Hz, 750Hz, 2200Hz and 6600Hz Graphic EQ became an integral part of the classic Mark Series sound.
The Graphic EQ allows dramatic shaping after the amplifier's primary tone circuit. Players can add low-frequency authority, sculpt the critical midrange, introduce attack and presence, or create the famous scooped Mark Series response associated with countless heavy guitar recordings.
On the HRG, the Graphic EQ is also footswitchable, making it a genuine performance tool rather than simply another tone control.
THE RIGHT CABINET MATTERS — CELESTION C90 VINTAGE THIELE
This is where this particular package becomes especially compelling.
Rather than pairing the Mark IIC+ HRG with an arbitrary cabinet, Northeast Music Center is offering it with the matching Vintage Thiele 1x12.
Inside is a UK-made proprietary Celestion C90, rated for 90 watts.
But the speaker is only part of the story.
The Thiele uses a closed-back, front-ported enclosure designed to produce considerably more focused low-frequency response than its compact dimensions might suggest.
MESA's original Thiele cabinet appeared in the early 1980s and became a familiar partner for compact Boogie amplifiers. The current Vintage Thiele preserves that concept while using the C90 for a slightly more forgiving, overdrive-friendly response.
The result is exactly what you want underneath an HRG:
tight fundamental, substantial punch, focused low end and excellent articulation.
It makes this little 1x12 sound and feel much larger than its physical footprint suggests.
A COMPLETE, MATCHING BOOGIE RIG
There's also something special about seeing these two pieces together.
The compact Mark IIC+ head sits naturally over the Vintage Thiele, while the matching Black Bronco covering, Wicker Grilles and metal corners give the stack the unmistakable appearance of a classic high-end Boogie rig.
It's compact enough to remain practical, yet visually and sonically substantial enough to become the centerpiece of a serious guitar setup.
For the longtime Boogie enthusiast, it immediately recalls an important period in MESA history.
For a younger player who has spent years hearing about the mythology surrounding the IIC+, this is an opportunity to experience that architecture through a brand-new MESA-built amplifier.
And for the collector who appreciates both tone and presentation, the matching HRG/Thiele combination simply looks right.
At Northeast Music Center, we believe an amplifier at this level deserves more than a specification sheet. The Mark IIC+ HRG is part of the lineage that established MESA/Boogie as one of the world's great amplifier builders, and pairing it with the Vintage Thiele completes the experience.
Northeast Music Center is proud to offer this matching Mark IIC+ HRG and Vintage Thiele rig to players who have been waiting for the opportunity to own one of MESA's most celebrated amplifier designs without chasing an increasingly rare vintage original.
100 watts. Four 6L6s. Reverb. Five-band Graphic EQ. The legendary IIC+ Lead circuit. And a matching Celestion C90-loaded Vintage Thiele.
Classic Boogie is back—and this is the complete rig.
