MESA/Boogie 1x12 WideBody Compact Closed Back Speaker Cabinet – Black Bronco
One Celestion C90. 90 watts. Closed-back authority. Tuned front-port punch. The discontinued MESA WideBody 1x12 delivers the kind of low-end depth and tonal width you simply don't expect from a single 12-inch cabinet.
The MESA/Boogie 1x12 WideBody Closed Back is proof that you don't need a 2x12 or 4x12 to get a genuinely substantial guitar sound.
Originally developed as a companion to the Mark V, this 23-inch WideBody design combines a rear-mounted Celestion C90 with a closed-back, front-ported enclosure, creating a compact cabinet capable of delivering impressive bass response, focused punch, solid mids, and the clarity needed for everything from dimensional cleans to serious modern high gain.
And because MESA has since discontinued this particular WideBody Closed Back design, remaining examples have become especially interesting for players who already know how good these cabinets are.
Available from Northeast Music Center, this Black Bronco version delivers classic MESA appearance and one of the company's most versatile single-speaker cabinet designs.

CELESTION C90 — THE HEART OF THE CABINET
Inside the WideBody is MESA's proprietary Celestion C90, one of the speakers most closely associated with the modern Boogie sound.
Rated for 90 watts, the C90 provides substantial power handling while maintaining a broad and musical response.
Clean tones have clarity and dimension.
Push into crunch and medium gain and the cabinet develops body without becoming congested.
With a high-gain Mark Series or other powerful MESA amplifier, the C90 has the headroom and definition necessary to maintain articulation while delivering serious punch.
That's exactly the versatility a cabinet like this needs.
At Northeast Music Center, we believe the speaker belongs near the top of a cabinet description because the enclosure is only half the equation. The C90 and WideBody enclosure work together to create the final response you actually hear and feel.
WHY 23-INCH WIDEBODY CONSTRUCTION MATTERS
A conventional compact 1x12 can sound excellent, but smaller internal dimensions naturally limit how much low-frequency authority the enclosure can develop.
The WideBody approaches things differently.
At 22 3/4 inches wide, its increased internal volume allows the C90 to develop a broader, more substantial bass response while retaining the convenience of a single-speaker cabinet.
That means you get the portability and simplicity of a 1x12 without automatically accepting a small 1x12 sound.
It's an especially smart design for players who want to downsize from a larger cabinet without making an equally large tonal compromise.
CLOSED BACK + FRONT PORTED
This is the key to understanding the WideBody Closed Back.
The rear of the cabinet is sealed, helping produce the focus, punch, and controlled low-frequency response players associate with great closed-back enclosures.
But MESA also incorporates a tuned front port.
That combination allows the cabinet to produce a broad and authoritative bass response while maintaining the definition necessary for percussive clean sounds, thick medium-gain rhythm work, and aggressive modern high gain.
The result is a cabinet that can sound considerably larger than its physical footprint suggests.
FROM CLEAN TO HIGH GAIN
One of the WideBody's greatest strengths is that it isn't locked into a single style of music.
Clean players can appreciate the cabinet's substantial fundamental and clear top-end response.
Blues and classic-rock players get enough midrange body to make overdriven sounds feel thick and satisfying.
High-gain players benefit from the controlled low end and punch of the closed-back architecture.
That's exactly why the WideBody makes such a natural partner for MESA's Mark Series amplifiers.
One cabinet can follow the amplifier from pristine cleans through crunch and into saturated Lead tones without feeling like the wrong enclosure for any of them.
A GREAT EXTENSION FOR AN OPEN-BACK COMBO
The WideBody Closed Back can also be especially effective when paired with an open-back MESA combo.
Instead of simply adding another speaker, you're adding a different enclosure architecture to the rig.
The open-back combo contributes air, dimension, and room-filling dispersion.
The WideBody contributes focused bass, punch, and low-frequency authority.
Together, they can create a larger and more complete sound than simply adding another cabinet of the same type.
BUILT THE MESA WAY
MESA cabinets have long been known for substantial construction, and the WideBody follows that tradition.
The enclosure uses void-free marine-grade Baltic birch plywood, reinforced rabbet corners, and a dado-jointed and braced speaker baffle.
Even the grille is treated as part of the cabinet's tonal design. Rather than attaching the material directly to the speaker baffle, MESA wraps its twisted-jute material around a separate grille board and treats the material to subtly smooth the extreme top end.
These details are part of why a genuine MESA enclosure is more than simply a wooden box holding a speaker.
THE DISCONTINUED WIDEBODY PLAYERS STILL WANT
There's another reason this cabinet deserves attention.
MESA has discontinued this particular WideBody Closed Back model.
That doesn't suddenly make the cabinet sound better—but it does mean players who specifically want this combination of 23-inch WideBody dimensions, Celestion C90, closed-back construction, and front-port tuning can no longer simply assume they'll always be able to order one from regular production.
For players who already own one and want a second, Mark Series enthusiasts assembling a complete rig, or anyone who has been specifically looking for the discontinued WideBody design, that matters.
Northeast Music Center is proud to offer MESA/Boogie cabinets to players who understand that speaker choice and cabinet architecture are every bit as important as the amplifier sitting on top.
If you want the portability of a 1x12 but refuse to settle for a small sound, the WideBody Closed Back remains an exceptionally compelling solution.
One Celestion C90. 90 watts. 8 ohms. Closed-back construction. Tuned front port. 23-inch WideBody dimensions.
Compact footprint. Full-size Boogie authority.
