• 6 × MESA 12AX7 Preamp Tubes
• 8 tubes total

• No rectifier tubes required
• Compatible with Mark Five: 25 Head and 1x10 Combo configurations
The Mark Five: 25 power section uses:
2 × MESA EL84 power tubes
The EL84 power section is a major part of what gives the Mark Five: 25 its personality.
MESA describes the EL84 version of the Mark Series voice as tighter and brighter, with a fast top-end response and a power section that can be driven more readily than its larger 6L6-powered relatives.
These tubes contribute to the amplifier's:
Fast attack
Focused midrange
Harmonic complexity
Responsive power-tube overdrive
Excellent articulation
and:
Dynamic playing feel
Fresh EL84s can help restore the punch, immediacy, and responsiveness that make the Mark Five: 25 such an engaging amplifier.
The Mark Five: 25 uses:
6 × MESA 12AX7 preamp tubes
That's an important distinction from several other compact MESA amplifiers.
The Mark Five: 25 has an extremely sophisticated preamp architecture designed to recreate some of the most important voices in MESA history.
Healthy preamp tubes help maintain:
Gain structure
Clarity
Low-noise performance
Channel definition
Harmonic detail
Sustain
and:
The articulation required for high-gain Mark Series tones
When you're dealing with an amplifier capable of moving from pristine cleans to Mark IIC+ and Extreme levels of gain, the condition of those preamp tubes matters.
Unlike the larger 90-watt Mark V, the Mark Five: 25 does not use a tube rectifier.
Its rectification is:
Silicon Diode
Therefore, a complete Mark Five: 25 replacement tube package requires:
2 × EL84
6 × 12AX7
and:
No rectifier tube.
This is an important distinction when creating a complete replacement package for the amplifier.
The Mark Five: 25 features MESA's:
Maintenance-Free Fixed Bias
design.
There is no alternate power-tube bias switch on this model.
The amplifier is designed specifically around its EL84 power section, making the correct MESA EL84 matched pair the straightforward factory-style replacement choice.
Tube wear often happens gradually.
You may begin noticing:
Reduced punch
Less clean headroom
Softer attack
Increased noise
Microphonic behavior
Reduced high-gain definition
Less sustain
or:
An overall loss of responsiveness
Because the changes occur slowly, it's easy to become accustomed to an amplifier that isn't performing the way it once did.
A complete retube can help restore the performance and confidence you expect from your MESA.
