The MESA/Boogie Mark V represents decades of Mark Series development brought together in one extraordinary amplifier.
With three channels, nine modes, 10/45/90-watt Multi-Watt™ operation, Simul-Class™ power, selectable rectification, the legendary MESA 5-band graphic EQ, and voices inspired by several landmark MESA amplifiers, the Mark V can cover an enormous amount of musical territory.
An amplifier this sophisticated depends heavily on the condition of the tubes inside it.
Available from Northeast Music Center, this complete replacement tube package provides the correct standard tube complement for players looking to refresh their Mark V and keep it performing at its best.
• 4 × MESA 6L6 Power Tubes
• 7 × MESA 12AX7 Preamp Tubes
• 1 × MESA 5U4 Rectifier Tube
• 12 tubes total
• Standard factory-style 6L6 configuration
• Designed for the original MESA/Boogie Mark V 90-Watt Head and Combo
The standard Mark V power section uses:
4 × MESA 6L6 power tubes
These tubes are fundamental to the Mark V's enormous range.
They contribute to:
Powerful clean headroom
Tight low-frequency response
Strong transient attack
Broad dynamic range
Focused high-gain performance
and:
The authority expected from a full-size Mark Series amplifier
As power tubes wear, the change can happen gradually.
The amplifier may begin to feel softer.
Low frequencies can lose definition.
Clean headroom may decrease.
Attack may become less immediate.
A fresh set of properly selected power tubes can help restore the strength and responsiveness that make a healthy Mark V so impressive.
The Mark V uses:
7 × MESA 12AX7 preamp tubes
This sophisticated preamp architecture helps the amplifier deliver nine distinct modes across three channels.
Healthy preamp tubes help maintain:
Gain structure
Clarity
Harmonic detail
Low-noise performance
Channel definition
Sustain
and:
High-gain articulation
With an amplifier capable of moving from pristine cleans to Mark IIC+™, Mark IV™, and Extreme high-gain sounds, the performance of the preamp tubes matters tremendously.
The Mark V also uses:
1 × MESA 5U4 rectifier tube
Unlike the smaller Mark Five: 25, the full-size Mark V incorporates tube rectification as part of its sophisticated power architecture.
Depending on the channel and wattage setting, the amplifier can use tube or silicon-diode rectification to alter the response and feel of the power section.
The 5U4 therefore isn't simply another tube inside the chassis.
It is part of what gives the Mark V its extraordinary ability to change personality.
The Mark V includes a:
6L6 / EL34 Bias Select Switch
This allows compatible:
6L6
or:
EL34
power tubes to be used with the appropriate switch setting.
For this Northeast Music Center replacement package, we are using the standard factory-style:
4 × 6L6 configuration
6L6s provide the broad response, strong low end, excellent clean headroom, and authority traditionally associated with the Mark V.
Players specifically seeking an EL34-equipped Mark V should use the appropriate EL34 replacement set and Bias Select position.
The Mark V uses MESA's:
Maintenance-Free Fixed Bias
design.
When using properly selected MESA power tubes and the correct Bias Select position, the amplifier is designed to operate within its intended range without the conventional adjustable-bias procedure found on many tube amplifiers.
That helps make proper factory-style tube replacement straightforward.
Tube wear rarely happens all at once.
Instead, players may gradually notice:
Reduced clean headroom
Softer low-frequency response
Less punch
Increased noise
Microphonic preamp tubes
Reduced sustain
Less high-gain definition
or:
An overall loss of immediacy and responsiveness
Because the Mark V has such a wide dynamic and tonal range, fresh tubes can be particularly noticeable when an older set has accumulated significant playing time.
