The MESA Subway+ Bass DI-Preamp II is a compact, full-featured evolution of our highly acclaimed first-generation Subway bass preamp pedals. It combines the strengths of our original two models into a single design with an expanded yet streamlined feature set — delivering all the tone-shaping tools you need (and nothing you don’t) to achieve the sound, feel, and response that have made the Subway Series leaders in premium bass tone.

LEGENDARY MESA HERITAGE

Building on the foundation established by the celebrated Subway D-800™, Subway D-800+, and Subway D-350 preamps, this new DI preamp packs even more capability into a format that’s 35% smaller than the originals. The result is world-class MESA bass tone in an even more pedalboard-friendly package — ideal for home practice, studio recording, and touring.

POWERFUL FEATURES WITHOUT COMPLEXITY

The Subway+ Bass DI-Preamp II’s musically rich architecture easily adapts to active or passive basses thanks to its extended-range J-FET preamp. An Input Mute footswitch silences the outputs for quiet tuning, while the Deep switch adds roundness and the Bright switch introduces bite and sparkle to the top end.

Our award-winning variable hi-pass filter removes unwanted, headroom-robbing subsonic frequencies, allowing precise control of the low end to suit the musical style, ensemble, or venue. Separate Gain, footswitchable Boost, and Master Volume controls provide a wide range of gain textures — from warm, rounded cleans to mild overdrive and everything in between.

The Variable Voicing control shifts the overall response from flat and modern to a more vintage curve by adjusting multiple frequency regions with a single knob. A fully active 4-band Baxandall EQ includes fixed high and low shelving controls, plus variable-frequency Low Mid and High Mid bands for precise tonal sculpting.

INPUTS AND OUTPUTS FOR EVERY SITUATION

For private practice anywhere, the Aux Input and Headphone output allow you to play along with media while monitoring your bass without disturbing others. The Preamp Output functions as either a ¼" TS unbalanced or ¼" TRS fully balanced connection and provides ample signal to drive professional power amps.

A full-featured, mic-level balanced XLR direct output with pre/post EQ selection and ground lift sends iconic MESA tone to front-of-house, monitors, or recording interfaces.
