MESA/Boogie Tube Replacement Set for Triple Crown TC-100

Give your MESA/Boogie Triple Crown TC-100 a complete tube refresh with the correct MESA tube complement. This replacement set provides four EL34 power tubes, six 12AX7 preamp tubes, and one 12AT7—the complete 11-tube configuration used in the TC-100.

The MESA/Boogie Triple Crown TC-100 is a serious all-tube amplifier, capable of everything from sparkling cleans and muscular crunch to tight, harmonically rich high gain. Keeping its tube complement healthy is essential to maintaining the punch, clarity, dynamics, and responsiveness the amplifier was designed to deliver.

MESA's official specifications confirm that the stock TC-100 uses four EL34 power tubes, six 12AX7 preamp tubes, and one 12AT7. The amplifier also provides a Bias Select switch allowing compatible 6L6 or 6V6 power tubes to be used, but EL34 is the original stock configuration.

Available from Northeast Music Center, this complete replacement set takes the guesswork out of re-tubing your Triple Crown TC-100.

FOUR MESA EL34 POWER TUBES

The TC-100 leaves the factory with:

4 × MESA EL34 power tubes

and that's an important part of the amplifier's personality.

The EL34 platform contributes to the Triple Crown's aggressive midrange, harmonic complexity, tight punch, and distinctly rock-oriented response.

MESA currently identifies its EL34 STR-446 as an excellent choice for Triple Crown EL34-based amplifiers, describing it as having strong harmonic complexity, full mids, and rich low-frequency response.

For the player who wants to retain the TC-100's original EL34 personality, this is where we'd recommend staying.

SIX 12AX7 PREAMP TUBES

The TC-100 also uses:

6 × MESA 12AX7 preamp tubes.

These tubes are integral to the amplifier's three-channel preamp architecture.

The Triple Crown isn't a simple one- or two-channel amplifier. It provides three independent channels with two voicings per channel:

CHANNEL 1 — Normal / Drive

CHANNEL 2 — Normal / Tight

CHANNEL 3 — Normal / Tight

Those six 12AX7s contribute to the gain structure and response that allow the TC-100 to move from pristine clean sounds through modern crunch and into serious high-gain territory.

ONE MESA 12AT7

There's one additional tube that's easy to overlook:

1 × MESA 12AT7.

MESA specifically identifies the 12AT7 as being used in the Triple Crown TC-50 and TC-100, and this lower-gain tube performs a different role from the amplifier's six 12AX7s.

That's why a proper complete TC-100 replacement set isn't simply:

Four EL34s + a handful of 12AX7s.

The correct full complement is:

4 EL34 + 6 12AX7 + 1 12AT7.

WHY REPLACE THE COMPLETE TUBE COMPLEMENT?

Tubes are wear components.

And their deterioration isn't always dramatic.

Over time, you may begin noticing changes in:

Punch

Clarity

Dynamics

Headroom

Gain character

Low-frequency definition

Noise

or simply the overall liveliness of the amplifier.

A complete replacement set gives you a known starting point throughout the entire amplifier.

Instead of wondering which preamp tube is old, whether the power tubes have substantial hours on them, or what may have been replaced previously, you can refresh the complete tube complement together.

DESIGNED FOR MESA'S FIXED-BIAS SYSTEM

This is an important advantage of using properly selected MESA tubes.

MESA explains that its tubes are tested and selected to operate correctly within the company's amplifier designs and fixed-bias specifications. When properly specified MESA tubes are used in a MESA fixed-bias amplifier, MESA states that there is no need to have the amplifier re-biased.

That removes a lot of unnecessary guesswork.

Install the correct MESA tube complement and keep the amplifier operating within the parameters its designers intended.

EL34, 6L6 OR 6V6 — THE TC-100 GIVES YOU OPTIONS

The TC-100 is unusual because its Bias Select switch allows the amplifier to operate with:

EL34

6L6

or:

6V6

power tubes.

Each option changes the response and personality of the amplifier.

But for this replacement set, we're staying with the stock EL34 configuration.

That's the configuration we'd recommend at Northeast Music Center for the TC-100 owner who wants to restore the amplifier rather than deliberately change its power-tube personality.

THE TC-100 DESERVES THE RIGHT TUBES

The Triple Crown TC-100 isn't an ordinary tube head.

Its three-channel architecture provides six available voicings.

MESA's Multi-Soak™ system provides independently selectable:

100 watts

50 watts

20 watts

7 watts

or:

3 watts

for each channel.

That means the power section can operate under dramatically different conditions depending on how the amplifier is configured.

The TC-100 also includes all-tube spring reverb, a tube-buffered effects loop, MIDI control, and MESA's CabClone system.

This is an amplifier worth maintaining properly.

ONE COMPLETE SET — NO GUESSWORK

That's ultimately the advantage of purchasing the complete TC-100 tube replacement set.

You don't have to determine the correct quantity.

You don't have to remember the 12AT7.

You don't have to piece together the power and preamp sections separately.

You get:

4 × MESA EL34

6 × MESA 12AX7

1 × MESA 12AT7

for a total of:

11 tubes.

At Northeast Music Center, that's how we'd approach maintaining a Triple Crown TC-100—use the correct tube complement, replace what the amplifier actually requires, and get back to playing.

Four EL34s. Six 12AX7s. One 12AT7.

Everything your TC-100 needs for a complete re-tube.
