PRS Tekton Hardtail Black Tourmaline (s/n:)! Guitar comes with PRS Premier GigBag!

Product Description:

The new PRS Tekton Hardtail in Black Tourmaline introduces a different side of PRS Guitars. Developed for musicians who demand precision, speed, and exceptional note clarity, the Tekton is an entirely new guitar platform built around modern playing techniques. Its sleek body, redesigned neck, stainless steel frets, and purpose-built electronics represent a significant step beyond the familiar PRS designs.

Black Tourmaline is an especially compelling finish for this model. The darker coloring works beautifully with the distinctive grain of the figured mango top, giving the instrument a sophisticated, almost understated appearance. Unlike traditional flame or quilted maple, mango has its own unique figure and character, making the natural wood an important part of the guitar's visual appeal.

The Smoked Black hardware complements the finish, while the natural satin-finished maple neck provides a striking contrast. It's a detail that gives the Black Tourmaline Tekton a distinctive identity, particularly when viewed from the back.

But the real story is how this guitar performs.

PRS developed the Tekton's body shape by combining elements of its Vela and Custom designs, refining the contours until they arrived at something entirely new. The result is the thinnest body in PRS standard production, featuring a comfortable belly carve and an exaggerated upper-fret scoop. The instrument sits naturally against the player, making it particularly comfortable for extended rehearsals, recording sessions, and live performances.

The neck is equally purposeful. PRS created a new Modern D profile, its thinnest standard-production neck carve, while maintaining enough substance to feel supportive in the hand. The natural satin nitro finish provides a smooth playing surface, and internal hormigo reinforcement rods add strength and rigidity to the maple neck.

A 25.5" scale length, 16" ebony fingerboard radius, and 24 stainless steel jumbo frets create a playing experience that's noticeably different from a traditional PRS. The flatter fingerboard and extended scale are particularly appealing for guitarists who favor precise picking, wide bends, complex chord voicings, and demanding lead techniques.

The Tekton also features slightly wider string spacing, similar to the PRS Silver Sky and Fiore, giving the picking hand a little more room for accurate articulation. Offset fingerboard inlays maintain the guitar's clean appearance, while Luminlay side dots make navigating the fingerboard easier under challenging stage lighting.

PRS Stylus Pickups: Designed for Today's Guitarists

The Tekton introduces the new PRS Stylus pickups, developed specifically for this guitar family.

These Alnico 5 humbuckers were designed to deliver aggressive tones without sacrificing clarity or dynamic response. Rather than relying on excessive output, PRS focused on achieving a balanced voice that maintains note separation, particularly when playing through high-gain amplifiers.

That balance makes the Stylus pickups especially useful with modern digital modeling systems. Whether you're using a traditional tube amplifier or working with platforms such as Neural DSP, Fractal Audio, Kemper, or Line 6 Helix, the Tekton is designed to provide a clear, articulate foundation for your sound.

A three-way blade pickup selector, master volume, and push/pull tone control provide straightforward operation. The push/pull function allows the humbuckers to be split for additional tonal options, with PRS carefully voicing the pickups to make both full humbucker and split-coil settings musically useful.

The PRS Hardtail bridge contributes to the guitar's immediate, focused response, while Phase III locking tuners provide dependable tuning performance and convenient string changes. It's a practical hardware combination for players who value consistency and simplicity.

A New Direction for PRS

At Northeast Music Center, we've worked closely with PRS guitars for decades, and we've seen the company introduce instruments that genuinely expand its appeal to different kinds of players. The Tekton is one of those guitars.

Rather than adapting an existing model, PRS created a new body, neck, pickup system, and overall playing experience specifically for musicians who want modern specifications without compromising craftsmanship or musicality.

The Black Tourmaline finish gives this instrument a particularly refined appearance, while the natural satin maple neck adds a welcome contrast and a smooth, comfortable feel.

With more than 30 years of Jack Gretz selling PRS guitars and 15 years of Northeast Music Center representing the brand, we appreciate the attention to detail that goes into developing a new PRS platform. The Tekton demonstrates how the company continues to listen to players and translate their feedback into thoughtful instrument design.

For guitarists looking for exceptional upper-fret access, a fast and comfortable neck, articulate pickups, and the stability of a hardtail bridge, this Black Tourmaline Tekton is an excellent choice.

Northeast Music Center is proud to offer the PRS Tekton Hardtail in Black Tourmaline, complete with its PRS Premium Gig Bag.
