MESA/Boogie Badlander 50 Head w/ 2x12 Vertical Rectifier Cabinet
The sweet spot of the Badlander lineup paired with one of MESA’s most formidable 2x12 cabinets. This complete rig combines 50/20-watt EL34 power, Clean/Crunch/Crush modes, CabClone IR, and a sealed Vertical Rectifier 2x12 loaded with two Celestion Vintage 30s for tight lows, aggressive mids, exceptional definition, and serious stage authority.
The MESA/Boogie Badlander 50 Head with Vertical Rectifier 2x12 Cabinet is a beautifully matched professional guitar rig.
The Badlander 50 takes the Rectifier concept in a tighter, faster, and more focused direction, combining two EL34 power tubes with 50/20-watt operation and two independent channels that each offer Clean, Crunch, and Crush modes. Underneath it, MESA’s Vertical Rectifier 2x12 supplies the punch and projection this amplifier deserves through two Celestion Vintage 30 speakers in a sealed Baltic birch enclosure.
Available from Northeast Music Center, this package gives the serious guitarist a complete MESA system with much of the physical authority associated with a Rectifier half-stack, but in a considerably more practical format.

TWO CELESTION VINTAGE 30s — EXACTLY WHAT THIS RIG NEEDS
The speakers are a major reason this combination works.
The Vertical Rectifier cabinet is loaded with two Celestion Vintage 30s and handles 120 watts at 8 ohms.
Vintage 30s have become closely associated with the Rectifier sound for good reason. Their assertive midrange, strong projection, controlled low-frequency response, and ability to retain definition under heavy gain complement the Badlander exceptionally well.
Palm-muted riffs stay tight.
Chords retain separation.
Lead tones have enough midrange presence to cut.
Lower tunings maintain authority without turning into an indistinct wash of bass.
At Northeast Music Center, we don't consider the cabinet an accessory to this amplifier.
The cabinet is part of the instrument.
WHY THE BADLANDER 50 MAY BE THE SWEET SPOT
The Badlander 25, 50, and 100 each have their own appeal.
The 25 gives you EL84 character and exceptional portability.
The 100 gives you four-EL34 power and maximum authority.
The Badlander 50 sits right in the middle—and for many players, that's exactly where you want to be.
You still get EL34 power.
You still get serious stage volume.
You still get the complete Badlander preamp.
You still get CabClone IR and the internal load.
But the head itself weighs only 36 lbs., compared with the larger format of the Badlander 100.
For rehearsals, clubs, recording sessions, and full stage use, 50 watts of MESA tube power through two Vintage 30s is a serious rig.
CLEAN / CRUNCH / CRUSH — ON BOTH CHANNELS
MESA's Channel Cloning™ architecture gives both independent channels access to:
CLEAN
CRUNCH
CRUSH
Each channel also receives independent Gain, Treble, Mid, Bass, Presence, Master, and CabClone IR selection.
That means you aren't forced into the conventional Channel 1 Clean / Channel 2 Lead arrangement.
Try:
Channel 1 – Clean / Channel 2 – Crush
Or:
Channel 1 – Crunch Rhythm / Channel 2 – Crunch Lead
Or:
Channel 1 – Crush Rhythm / Channel 2 – Crush Lead
The Badlander gives you two channels.
You decide what those channels become.
CLEAN — DON'T LET THE RECTIFIER NAME FOOL YOU
The Badlander isn't exclusively a high-gain amplifier.
Clean gives you an articulate foundation for traditional clean sounds, pedals, atmospheric effects, and pushed-clean textures.
Run that through two Vintage 30s and there's plenty of clarity and projection available for a full band.
Because the channels have independent controls, you don't have to sacrifice your high-gain EQ to create a great clean sound.
CRUNCH — THE BADLANDER'S SECRET WEAPON
Crunch may be one of the most compelling reasons to own this amplifier.
It can move from edge-of-breakup into muscular classic rock, alternative, punk, hard rock, and substantial overdrive.
This is also where the EL34 power section feels especially appropriate.
There's bite.
Midrange authority.
Harmonic texture.
And a physical responsiveness that makes the Badlander 50 tremendously satisfying even before you reach its highest-gain setting.
CRUSH — TIGHT, FAST AND AGGRESSIVE
Then comes Crush.
This is where the Badlander earns its name.
There's plenty of gain available, but the real story is definition within the gain.
Fast picking stays articulate.
Palm-muted passages hit hard.
Complex chords retain separation.
The amplifier tracks what your hands are doing instead of hiding everything beneath saturation.
The Badlander was specifically conceived as a tighter, more aggressive evolution of Rectifier tone, with a more focused low end and assertive midrange character.
Put that through a sealed pair of Vintage 30s and you have an exceptionally powerful modern rock and high-gain platform.
50 WATTS OR 20 WATTS — TWO DIFFERENT FEELS
At 50 watts, the two EL34s operate in Pentode for maximum punch and authority.
Switch to 20 watts and the pair operates in Triode for a different response and feel.
Don't think of this simply as:
50W = Loud
20W = Quiet
Think:
50W = Punch / Headroom / Authority
20W = Earlier Power-Amp Interaction / Harmonic Richness / Different Feel
That gives the Badlander 50 considerable flexibility between stage, rehearsal, and studio environments.
VERTICAL / SLANT — YOU CAN ACTUALLY HEAR YOUR CABINET
The Vertical Rectifier cabinet isn't simply a horizontal 2x12 turned sideways.
Its upper speaker slopes upward toward the guitarist, creating what MESA describes as a monitor effect. The enclosure also has roughly the same internal area as MESA's Horizontal Rectifier 2x12, helping it retain similar punch, detail, and overall tonal scale.
That's genuinely useful on stage.
One Vintage 30 projects outward.
The other projects upward toward you.
You hear more of your amplifier without needing to tilt the entire cabinet backward or stand across the room from it.
4x12 ATTITUDE WITHOUT BRINGING THE 4x12
This is one of the strongest selling points of the entire package.
MESA specifically designed the Vertical Rectifier 2x12 for players who love the sound and presentation of a slant 4x12 but don't always want to transport one. MESA says the cabinet can provide a similar sonic footprint without the full size and weight.
You still get:
Two Vintage 30s.
A substantial sealed Baltic birch enclosure.
120 watts of handling.
Vertical projection.
Real Rectifier punch.
But the cabinet remains considerably more manageable than a traditional 4x12.
CABCLONE IR — YOUR PHYSICAL CABINET IS ONLY ONE OPTION
The Badlander 50's built-in CabClone IR adds another dimension to this rig.
Eight MESA cabinet IRs are stored internally, including multiple Rectifier configurations, and the amplifier supports additional compatible IR management through USB.
You can play through the physical Vertical Rectifier cabinet while simultaneously sending an IR-based XLR signal to front-of-house or your recording interface.
Or use the Badlander's internal amplifier load for properly configured cabinet-free operation.
That means this rig can function as:
A traditional tube amp and cabinet.
A live rig with direct XLR output.
A recording amplifier.
A silent headphone system.
A cabinet-free direct rig.
It's old-school MESA horsepower with genuinely useful modern connectivity.
A COMPLETE PROFESSIONAL MESA SYSTEM
The Badlander 50 provides the tight gain architecture, EL34 character, two-channel flexibility, multiple power settings, and modern direct-recording capability.
The Vertical Rectifier supplies the sealed low-end punch, dual-Vintage-30 midrange authority, and vertical projection.
Each component makes sense on its own.
Together, they make even more sense.
For the guitarist who wants a professional MESA rig capable of everything from articulate cleans and muscular rock tones to serious modern high gain—but doesn't want to automatically jump to a 100-watt head and 4x12—the Badlander 50 Vertical Rectifier stack may be the sweet spot.
50/20 watts. Two EL34s. Clean, Crunch and Crush. CabClone IR. Two Celestion Vintage 30s. 120-watt sealed Vertical Rectifier cabinet.
A complete MESA rig with serious authority and a much more practical footprint.
