Tight EL34 power meets one of MESA’s most legendary 2x12 cabinets. The MESA/Boogie Badlander 50 delivers 50/20-watt operation, two independent channels with Clean, Crunch, and Crush modes, and built-in CabClone IR, while the sealed Horizontal Rectifier 2x12 brings the punch, projection, and authority of two Celestion Vintage 30s.

The MESA/Boogie Badlander 50 Head with 2x12 Horizontal Rectifier Cabinet may be one of the sweet spots in the entire Rectifier family.

You get the tighter, faster response of the Badlander platform, a pair of EL34 power tubes, serious stage volume, and the flexibility of 50- or 20-watt operation—all driving a cabinet with genuine Rectifier 4x12 DNA.

The Horizontal Rectifier 2x12 wasn't designed to sound small.

MESA originally developed the enclosure by matching the dimensions of the bottom two speakers of its Standard Oversized Rectifier 4x12. The resulting sealed cabinet delivers tremendous punch, projection, low-end authority, and midrange bite from a much more manageable format.

There's plenty of saturation available, but the amplifier doesn't need to blur the edges of your playing to sound heavy.

MESA's Channel Cloning™ architecture gives both channels access to:

CRUNCH — ONE OF THE BADLANDER'S BEST SOUNDS

Don't buy a Badlander and overlook Crunch.

This mode can cover everything from muscular edge-of-breakup tones through classic rock, alternative, punk, hard rock, and substantial modern overdrive.

It's also a fantastic showcase for the EL34 power section.

There's bite and harmonic complexity without sacrificing clarity.

Through the Horizontal Rectifier cabinet, those tones become considerably larger and more physical.

The Vintage 30s reinforce the midrange while the sealed enclosure gives the bottom end real authority.

CRUSH — HIGH GAIN WITH DEFINITION

Crush is where the Badlander earns its reputation.

There's serious saturation available, but definition inside the gain is what makes the mode special.

Fast rhythm passages remain articulate.

Palm-muted notes stay controlled.

Complex chords don't automatically collapse into a wall of distortion.

Lower tunings remain focused.

That's why the Badlander is such a compelling amplifier for modern rock, progressive styles, hard rock, metal, and players using extended-range instruments.

50 WATTS OR 20 WATTS

The Badlander 50 provides two distinct power configurations.

At 50 watts, the pair of EL34s operates in Pentode for maximum punch, authority, and headroom.

At 20 watts, the same pair moves into Triode operation for a different power-section feel.

So don't think simply:

50W = Loud

20W = Quiet

The switch also changes the way the amplifier responds beneath your hands.

That makes the Badlander 50 especially adaptable between recording, rehearsal, club, and stage environments.

WHY THE HORIZONTAL RECTIFIER CABINET?

This cabinet has become a MESA classic for good reason.

The original Horizontal Rectifier 2x12 was created around the dimensions of the lower two speakers in MESA's Standard Oversized Rectifier 4x12. The resulting sealed enclosure delivers what MESA describes as huge punch, projection, authority, and world-class low-end response from its comparatively compact dimensions.

That's exactly what makes it such a strong partner for the Badlander 50.

The amplifier is tight and focused.

The cabinet makes it big.

4x12 DNA WITHOUT HAULING A 4x12

This is one of the strongest selling points of the entire package.

MESA's own description essentially asks the same question many working guitarists face:

What do you use when you want to bring a 4x12 but can't?

Their answer is the Horizontal Rectifier 2x12. MESA says it can sound big enough to make you question whether there really is a 4x12 behind you.

You still get:

Two Vintage 30s.

A substantial sealed enclosure.

120 watts of handling.

Serious low-frequency authority.

Classic Rectifier projection.

But the cabinet weighs 62 lbs. and measures 17½" × 30⅛" × 14¼".

For a working player, that matters.

HORIZONTAL OR VERTICAL?

Because Northeast Music Center offers both Badlander configurations, we should help customers understand the difference rather than making them guess.

The Vertical Rectifier 2x12 is ideal when you want a narrower floor footprint and the monitor-like projection of an angled upper speaker.

The Horizontal Rectifier 2x12 is the choice for the player who wants the traditional wide cabinet format, huge sealed low-end punch, and the direct design lineage of MESA's oversized Rectifier 4x12.

MESA notes that the Vertical and Horizontal Rectifier 2x12s have roughly similar interior area and therefore similar overall punch and detail, while the Vertical version changes the physical format and projection.

Neither replaces the other.

They simply offer two different ways to build a serious Rectifier rig.

CABCLONE IR — MORE THAN A TRADITIONAL STACK

The Badlander 50 may look like a traditional tube head sitting on a classic Rectifier cabinet, but there's considerable modern technology inside.

Its built-in CabClone IR system provides eight MESA cabinet IRs, independent IR selection for each channel, USB connectivity, a balanced XLR direct output, headphone output, and an internal amplifier load.

That gives you several ways to use the same amplifier:

Traditional head and cabinet.

Physical cabinet plus direct XLR feed.

Direct recording.

Headphone practice.

Properly configured cabinet-free operation.

The technology doesn't replace the physical Rectifier cabinet.

It gives you more ways to use the amplifier when bringing that cabinet isn't practical.
